Essential Oils: Picking the Right One for You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Guelph chapter.

Personally, I love using and diffusing essential oils! They help when I’m feeling anxious and stressed. My favorite oil is Lavender. I love the scent and it has several benefits including helping to relieve anxiety, insomnia, and it acts as an anti-inflammatory. I also love peppermint oil because it helps get rid of bad headaches! You can purchase a great roll on one called Peppermint halo from Saje for $16 (I promise you it’s worth it!). If you are wanting to get into essential oils, but don’t know much about them, I’ve provided a list of popular oils you can try. Each one is unique with different benefits so you can find the one that’s right for you!!

Peppermint

  • Used to boost energy and relieve headaches: The Peppermint Halo roll on from Saje is amazing and really helps to get rid of a bad headache
  • When diffused it helps reduce feelings of nervous tension and enhance mental concentration

Eucalyptus

  • Really helps when sick: Provides sinus relief and is known to relieve mental exhaustion by boosting your circulation
  • Diffusing this oil can help with stimulating the mind and provide you with energy to go about your day

Lavender

  • Lavender oil is really great because you can put it directly on your skin! I like to put a couple of drops on one of my wrists and then rub my arms together
  • It helps to relax you and relieve stress
  • Helps to relieve anxiety

Tea Tree

  • This is a great oil for getting rid of blemishes and pimples. Can be applied directly onto the skin
  • Works as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent

Chamomile

  • Helps with insomnia
  • Prevents infection
  • Boosts Nervous system

Each of these essential oils has its own unique benefits that can help provide you with relief or a natural scent. Personally, I love using my diffuser before I go to sleep or while I’m studying. It provides me with a calmness that helps me feel more peaceful and relaxed. I also wear an Aromatherapy bracelet that allows me to bring my essential oils on the go. Marshalls is a great place to find affordable essential oils, and if you are looking to splurge Saje has some really amazing ones!
