Totally Embarrassing: Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Valentine’s Day is full of love, hate, and everything in between. The best ‘in-betweens’ are the embarrassing ones! A few students share their most embarrassing Valentine’s stories, and help take the V-Day sting away with some laughs.

The Seat Filler

“I had just transferred to a new school in January and I didn’t know anyone. Of course, Valentine’s Day was the next month. There was this really cute boy, Aaron, in my math class and I had a huge crush on him. One day, he left this box with a bracelet and a note that read ‘Will you be my Valentine?,’ on my desk. I was so excited and couldn’t believe he wanted to be my Valentine! When I went to pick up the box, he ran over to me and said, ‘I thought Chasidy sat here.’ Chasidy was my best friend that sat next to me. Needless to say, I never sat at that desk, or near Aaron, again.”

The Other Woman

“My friends and I were sitting in the library and I saw this guy, that I had been talking to for awhile, come in. I immediately became super excited because I saw he had gifts and I just knew he was going to make a big presentation in front of my friends, asking to be my Valentine. He started walking my way and my heart began to race. He walked passed me to a girl that was sitting a few tables behind me. My heart sank. Come to find out, the girl was his girlfriend of two years! I finally knew what it felt like to be a side chick.”

The Switch Up

“I’m a junior in college and I still can’t talk to girls without choking. I had a crush on a girl who lived on my hallway named, Amanda. I wanted to ask her on a date but I couldn’t muster up the courage so I had my friend, Brody, do it for me. Surprisingly, she said yes! The day of the date, I made sure I had the perfect fit and smelled really nice. I even bought her flowers. When I went to pick her up from her room, she looked so confused when she saw me. She told me she thought she was going out with Brody, not me. I was so hurt but wanted to mask my pain. I just ended up throwing the flowers at her and going back to my room to play 2K. We haven’t spoke since.”

No Strings Attached

“I was single and I didn’t have a  date for Valentine’s Day. My friend didn’t either, so he asked me if he could take me out. He picked me up and we went to the Cheesecake Bistro at Atlantic Station. We ordered our food and everything was going fine. As we’re waiting, his ex- girlfriend came up and asked me, ‘Excuse me, what are you doing?’ I was confused but I told her this is my date and I asked who she was. During all of this, my date was just sitting there, not saying anything! After an awkward moment, he tried to introduce the girl and I to each other. Then, my date and the girl started arguing! I couldn’t take the embarrassment so I just quietly got up, walked out, and called an uber home. That was the last time I just let one of my friends take me out. There are always strings attached.”

What a Girl Wants

“All I wanted to do for Valentine’s Day was eat Chinese food and watch Netflix, but my boyfriend, at the time, insisted on going on a triple date. On the way there, he was speeding and got a ticket, after I just paid another ticket that he got around Christmas. Before we got to the restaurant, I had to stop at the ATM. When I returned to the car he said, “ I hope you have enough money for two,” but I thought he was just joking. When we finally got to the restaurant, we pretty much ordered a three-course meal. When the bill came, he just looked at it, handed it over to me and told me he left his wallet in the car. The bill was almost $60 just for the two of us! After dinner, we went to the movies and I ended up paying for that too! Oh, and what did I get for Valentine’s Day, you may ask? A $5 Family Dollar bag of those nasty ass Sweet Tart candies with ‘Be Mine’ on them, and a mini bear. What a gift. Just what I wanted. *rolls eyes*”
