Tony Ekeweme ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Name: Tony Ekeweme

Classification: Third Year

Hometown: Gwinett

Why did you chose GSU?

I chose Georgia State because its such an ideal location. Atlanata is such a developing city right now. And I also chose it becasue of its high diversity. Location and Diversity. I was more focused on the experiences I was going to get here

What are you involved in on campus?

“My on campus involvement is kind of dwindling a little bit becasue I’ve been trying to focus on me a little more, but I was previously involved with Spolight programming board. I was the volunteer coordinator for the student association. I currently work in the student center as a training coordinator and I work with music festivals outside of school.”

What drives your interest in music festivals?

“I love seeing how music connects people. It’s the coolest thing to see people from completely different backgrounds and come together at a festival and enjoy the entire experience together. It’s all about experiences for me. I worked with One Music Fest this year and I saw A guy that listened to Lauryn Hill in High school and a kid who listens to Lauryn now It cool helping being apart of that experience with people. It’s something I want to keep doing.”

What do you want to do in the future?

“In the future, I would love to throw my own music festival. I’m really big on experiences and I love sharing them with people. When I experience a good moment in my life I want others to experience similar moments. Seeing how something can start off really small and see it grow so big. Like with A3C, it started off as a small concert in Masquerade and now it’s a city wide music festival. Seeing the same cult fanbase follow through is really cool.”

If you had the means to throw a music festival next weekend, what Atlanta artists would you book?

“In a perfect world, I would have the entire Dungeon Family: Goodie Mob, Outkast, T.I., Gucci. Kilo Ali, Jermaine Dupree and I would have to bring out Future and (Young) Thug.”

You host a weekly fish fry at your place. What experience prompted you to start having fish fries at your place?

“The joy of having something. This is my new house. When I moved in my friends came over and I had so much joy of having all my closets friends together in one area I could call my own, it was amazing. So I wanted to recreate the feel of being able to come in, relax, talk, eat and  wash off the stresses of the week.”

What is the key to success?

Can I have keys?

You can have a key chain.

“It starts with your thought process. Building the idea in your brain. Molding it and curating it. You have to believe in what you want to do so badly that no one can discourage you. Another key is persistence. Look at the Wright Brothers almost died trying to make an airplane but that didn’t stop them from continuing to try. Lastly it’s the company you keep. I like this one quote I heard, ‘If you’re around 10 millionaires, you’re the eleventh.’”
