Welcome back, Panthers! Hopefully, your first three weeks of the semester went well. Once the new year begins school can get hectic, but these study tips will be sure to keep your grades high and your GPA even higher. Keep reading to see what you can do to keep yourself on the path to that degree!
1. Get off Your Phone

I know, being on your phone all day is way better than having to read 30 pages from your history textbook, but not doing your work isn’t going to get you the grades you want. If you want to get that degree, you’re going to have to stop slacking and put your phone away. In a study by the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, it was found that even the presence of your phone near you will distract you from completing your work. This is why you need to have your phone as far away from you as possible when you study. The best way to do this is to have a friend hold on to your phone until you finish your work, or you could put in in a different room so it’s out of arm’s reach. You’ll be so much happier that you did this when you get your grades back!
2. Make a Study Group
If your professor isn’t the best at teaching or if the class is too overwhelming for you to study by yourself, a study group is going to be your best friend for the class. When you’re in a study group, everyone can offer different insight that will make studying for tests and quizzes and even doing assignments much easier for you. These groups can also help remind you of assignments coming up! If you’re in a study group, it can also act as a gateway for friends in different classes. We’re all trying to help each other succeed, and a study group is definitely one way to do it.
3. Make a Quizlet Set or Flashcards

I cannot stress enough about how helpful Quizlet has been for me over the years. I have been using a Quizlet set since I was in high school, and I just want to thank the creator for making studying for tests easier for me. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the application, prepare to be amazed. Quizlet is an online flashcard studying app where you can choose different ways of going over the flashcards that you created. Since it’s online, you can download the Quizlet app and study on the go. If you prefer to do it the old-fashioned way, you can also create flashcards and study over them on the days leading up to the test.
4. Read Over the Textbook Every Night

The textbook can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It has so much information in it which can be overwhelming when you put off reading the assignments for the class. This is why I HIGHLY recommend that you read over the pages that are assigned every night. This will make listening and comprehending information in class easier because you will already know what your teacher is talking about. A great way to do this is to give yourself a reward for covering a certain number of pages in your book. For instance, you could make yourself some tea after covering 10 pages in your textbook. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could take notes on your laptop while you read, so when you study for a test you have a summarized version of the text.
5. Don’t forget to Take a Break

Studying is extremely stressful, and even though we all try and pull all-nighters because we waited to the last minute to study, it’s important to take a step back and give yourself 10 minutes to process all the information you just went over. Don’t overwork yourself. Set a timer, get a snack, watch a clip on Youtube, and then get back to studying. You’ll thank yourself later.
