Her Campus: What are 3 words you could describe yourself by?

Kiarra Sanford: Ambitious, Outspoken, and Compassionate

HC: Why did you pick GSU?

KS: Georgia State was the only school that I applied to in high school. I knew that GSU was the school for me because it prides itself on diversity. Also, I enjoyed that fact that Georgia State has an untraditional campus in the heart of Atlanta. The city life was extremely attractive to me.

HC: What is your favorite thing about attending GSU?

KS: I enjoy how different all the students at Georgia State are. In addition to the diversity of the student population, I admire the student leadership here at Georgia State. I’ve never met so many people my age who are dedicated to serving as a leader and committed to making a positive impact on the lives of others. 

HC: What is your ultimate career goal?

KS: My ultimate career goal is to work as a clinical analyst for the Center of Disease Control. After becoming successful in that endeavor, I would greatly enjoy being able to start and run my own electronic health record business which is widely recognized amongst other health care organizations. 

HC: Who has been most influential to you during your time here at Georgia State?

KS: Falon Thacker, the Residence Hall Director at Patton Hall, has been very influential to me during my time at GSU. Falon served as my direct supervisor my first year as a RA. She has taught me a lot about myself and constantly encouraged that I be open minded about ideas so that I may be a better leader here at Georgia State. 

HC: What motivates you?

KS: My family is my biggest motivation. They have supported me my entire life, and I want to be able to make them proud. 

HC: What inspires you?

KS: Seeing successful black women in the business world inspires me to be better and work harder towards my goals.

HC: What is your favorite quote?

KS: “When people show you who they are, believe them.” – Maya Angelou 

HC: What makes Kiarra, Kiarra?

KS: My outgoing personality and wiliness to laugh at myself. I try to find the light out of every situation. 

HC: What is the biggest thing you will take away from GSU when you graduate?

KS: I will take away from Georgia State my ability to comfortably meet new people and find a common ground with them. GSU has forced me out of my comfort zone and for that, I am forever grateful.
