Earth Day: 7 Ways to Celebrate Mother Nature

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably lived on Earth majority of your life without ever officially celebrating Earth Day. How exactly does one celebrate Earth Day, you ask? It’s easy: Do something that promotes the condition of our environment! Whether you’re a full-fledged tree-huger or entirely new to living a green lifestyle, there are tons of different ways to partake in the celebration of life and promote environmental awareness. Here are 7 cool ways to celebrate Earth Day:

1. Make a recycling plan. Recycling is the easiest way to show Mother Nature you care. Before April 22nd rolls around, make it your goal to pay a visit to the nearest recycling bin.

2. Fix a leaky faucet. You’ve probably wasted gallons of water from the annoying drip coming from your kitchen faucet. Tighten it up! Not to mention that this simple fix also does wonders for your water bill!

3.Plant a tree. Gather all your friends together and commit yourself to introducing a new tree to the soil. Pick a location that you and your friends can stop by and visit every once and awhile. And when Earth Day 2017 rolls around, you can plant a new tree right next to your old one!

4. Carpool. Reducing the amount of pollution in the air is a great way to show Earth some love. Organize a carpool system throughout the day, and if you’re really committed, start an “April 22nd” or “Earth Day” group text to help your friends coordinate your rides for the day.

6. Toss your car keys. Try walking to school, to work, or to the gym. Just walk somewhere you’d normally drive.

7. Create a Garden. Why? Because it’s fun and relaxing. Meanwhile, not only are you are you contributing to the health of the environment, you’re also making it beautiful. Way to kill two birds with one stone!

As you’re on your way to becoming a model citizen, be sure to pick up any trash you see along the way. Happy Earth Day, Earthlings!
