Dear Daddy

You didn’t come back today

I waited by the door

For your arrival

But you never came back

Dear Daddy

You promised to be here today

To be my guest

At my daddy/daughter dance

I waited by the door

Wearing my pink ballgown

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You missed my birthday today

I turned the big 12

With a strawberry ice cream cake

And nice presents for Mommy

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You didn’t come for Christmas today

You promised to bring me a gift

The book collection I’ve always wanted

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You skipped my induction

In the Beta Club

I got a pretty pin

And a certificate with my name on it

Mommy was proud

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You missed my first day of college

I started college at 16

I got on the yellow school bus

Mommy smiled and waved

“Good luck”

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You missed my graduation

I sent you an invitation

I wanted you there

I prayed you would show

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You hurt me

Over and over

With your false promises

False hope

And false love

But you never cared

Dear Daddy

You made me cry

Broke my heart

All I wanted

Was your love

But you never cared

Dear Daddy

You disappeared

I still have pain

From where you left me

Unloathed with sorrow

“Come back”

I whispered

But you never came

Dear Daddy

You have moved on

And so will I

I will forever be

Your little girl

Mending my broken heart

I forgive you
