HC: What makes you who you are?

I am unique and complex. I think everyone’s kind of weird in their own way. But I’m always 100% unapologetically me. I’m always going to do what makes me happy and always in my own lane and not too worried about meeting the status quo but I’m more concerned about being better than I was the day before. I’m like a child at heart so at the end of the day it’s about me making me happy. I think that my friends also are what makes me me. Being around other people like you kind of shows you who are through your friends so.

HC: What makes you passionate?

I’m really passionate about underdogs. Growing up I was really like an underdog. I like to see people who have potential and I’m passionate about helping other people reach their full potential. I’m not a big fan of people saying “I cant”. I let people know who say that the the tongue is a very powerful tool so you have to speak things into existence and speak power into your life.

HC: How would your best friends describe you?

Funny, caring, but stern caring. I always am a good shoulder to cry on but I’m also a problem solver, like I’m looking for a solution and you can cry but you also have to keep it moving. I’m blunt, because I tell it how it is, but it always comes from a caring place. So I’ll have your back but I’m really honest.

HC: How has becoming Mr. GSU shaped you?

It’s made me more aware of myself and how I carry myself. I’m really big on congruence so my campaign will reflect what I’m doing now because I believe to talk the talk you have to walk the walk. I always wanted to be the person to represent those who don’t know where they fit in. I want to be that person to have that voice that serves as that role, mentor, and guide for others. It’s shaped me into being more aware of who I am and makes me want to assure that I grow in this position and help others grow. I want to know that I’m representing the institution, myself and ‘you’ to the best of my abilities. I did a lot of praying to be of assistance and some type of light for others who cant see the light in themselves, that they can see them, selves in me and flourish. It’s a really big deal to me and I don’t take it lightly.

HC: Who and/or what is your inspiration?

My brother and my grandma. Those are my top two inspirations. My brother is my best friend. He’s the one person who just knows me. He was one of the first people to tell me not compare myself to him and influence me to step out of his shadow and out on my own. Then my grandma because she’s had a hand in raising everyone in the family, and for the first four months of all of my families lives she would be around to take care of us. She’s just that first caring, loving person to get to know and I spent every summer at her house. She’s had an impact spiritually, educationally (not just academically but also street smarts). When I first came to college I said that my degree is for my grandma. We’re about 80 days from graduation so when she sees me cross that stage it’ll be that much more fulfilling.

HC: What are you doing outside of taking courses at GSU?

I am kind’ve doing too much. I am apart of the 1913 society, I am the President of the Pi Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, I am the Welcome Center tour guide on campus and also the Vice President of Student Life and Student Government Association. I also serve as a mentor for young men at my church in my hometown.

HC: Where do you hope to see yourself in the future?

In the future, I hope to be a perfect or combination of Terrance J, Will Smith, Spike Lee and a dash of Wendy Williams because I want to be in the entertainment industry. I aspire to be a director but I also want to host or put on a red carpet events. These are all things these people have been able to do and they’re examples of what I want to be in the entertainment industry.

HC: What’s a fun fact about you that nobody knows?

People know that I love power rangers but no one knows I actually believed that I would be the first boy yellow ranger (because it’s my favorite color) so I believed with all my heart and soul that I would be a yellow power ranger and no one could tell me different.

HC: What do you look for in a significant other?

It’s really hard because I’ve been really focused on myself so I haven’t thought about that but a big thing I look for is clear communication, because I am blunt and caring but it’s not the easiest to communicate my own feelings. I want them to be honest. Them being God fearing is number one so that I can grow with them spiritually. I also need them to be confident in who they are because I’m a confident person myself.

HC: What is your favorite quote or mantra to live by?

“Today you are you that’s truer than true, there’s no one alive that it youer than you” – Dr. Seuss.
