So how much is a lot of money to keep shattering the competition? Well, according to Forbes with this being it’s second weekend their “drop” wasn’t all that bad considering the films close Marvel family competition such as The Amazing Spiderman and The Avengers. Not too bad right?

To date, Black Panther has grossed more than $700 million in box office sales worldwide. Yep, it’s definitely time to update those history books.

But aside from those amazing numbers and box office records, Black Panther offers us more, especially when it comes to educating the world on black culture. So many times we see record breaking movies depicting the storyline of black culture as slaves, drug dealers, bad boys and bad girls, inmates and anything else that is surface level to the typical stereotype. In short, what Ryan Coogler offered us through this film was several things.

The first being that black sci-fi is a forever thing and black boys, girls and those with young souls deserve to see it in real time, because like Ramonda said…

The second fact, being that we will change the narrative and not always be portrayed as slaves. In a sense, it a resounding noise that we begin a reclamation on our identities, and proudly say that those movies will not be the only storylines that portray blackness. We are such amazing people and sometimes, it is perfectly fine to be prideful in that. I mean, just look at T’Challa!

The third being that you can create amazing things if you give yourself the room to. Coolger is a great example of this! He took a childhood favorite and conjured it into something that the world will know about, regardless of if you like it or not. Overall, he is aiding in the celebration of blackness and the transformation of black history.
