5 Ways to Improve Your Mental Health

It is essential to focus on yourself as an individual. To grow and progress as a person, we need to focus on self-care mentally and physically. By doing this, we can show the best part of ourselves to others and bring the best out in others. Self-care is different for everyone. The main idea is to begin to love yourself and give yourself time from any stress or worries. By choosing to care for yourself, you can start a healthy lifestyle. There are so many ways to self-care for yourself, but here are a few suggestions that you can follow!

 

Meditate

At first, I wasn’t crazy about the idea of meditating. However, through my friends and peers, I started to learn that it is a common way to focus on your mental health and have a few minutes of the day to yourself! Meditation helps resolve tension and look deeper into yourself. I noticed I usually experience the most anxiety and stress when I am overwhelmed with a lot of school work and tests, and mediating helps bring me back to peace. Some popular apps that I have also used myself are Headspace and Calm. There are also free Youtube videos to help you meditate!

Spa Day

Taking a nice hot shower or a long bath can help relieve you from a long day. Use those bath bombs that have been lying around in your bathroom. You deserve to pamper yourself! This can include painting your nails, exfoliating your face, using a face mask, facial oil, essence, and more. Whatever is in your skincare routine, make sure to give yourself some time in the day for your physical health.

Socialize

Socializing can help you balance your stress. Give a call to a friend even if it’s for a short amount of time! When I am overwhelmed with anxiety, I will Facetime with my friends or go downstairs and watch TV with my family. Being in productive study groups can also help you release stress and better understand your struggles. Just hanging out with people who care about you and your well-being can help you forget what you are worried about and give you positive energy!

Exercise

Exercising is an excellent way to take care of both your mental and physical health. It helps increase self-esteem and release endorphins, whether it’s for fifteen minutes or one-hour, exercising is a way to boost your energy and relieve any tension. Getting fresh air is excellent if you are stuck inside all day. Many YouTubers have videos fitting your needs for what workouts you want to do! You can do Zumba, run, yoga, and more! One of my favorite YouTubers is Chloe Ting! I got back to exercising during quarantine and it has helped me release a lot of stress and have something to do when I am feeling down.

Journaling

Through journaling, you can express yourself and vent out your emotions. It’s nice because it only takes a few minutes out of your day. You can make daily goals and future goals you want to accomplish. It’s nice to look back and see how much you’ve accomplished and how much you have grown as you keep journaling. There are many great journals that you can get off Etsy or from local businesses that are cute and good for journaling!

These examples are a few ways you can grow as a person and care for yourself! It is always essential to give you some time to focus on yourself because you deserve it! This can help you make yourself a better person and also affect the people around you!
