A few weeks ago I felt the urge to get off campus and go adventure around Spokane. The only issue was I had no idea where to go or what to see. Downtown is fun, but it’s a lot of walking around big buildings and going into shops. I had already been to Manito park, Riverfront park, and many of the other parks in Spokane multiple times. And so I started looking up some ideas.

I ended up finding this really cool place called Cliff Park. It said there was a view of all of Spokane from the park. What better way to get out and “see” Spokane than to actually see all of Spokane. So we drove there and walked through the park, up all the stairs and onto the super cute Cliff Park. First, I should say this park would be the perfect place for a picnic. It was super cute and quaint, but there wasn’t actually a great view of Spokane, just a nice view of trees.

We searched through the trees and tried to see familiar buildings in the distance, but it was hard and, for the most part, useless. We left with our expectations unmet, but a story we would definitely laugh about in the future.

As we were driving back to campus, we ended up on a road heading through a neighborhood of nice, large houses. And as we were driving, we were suddenly greeted with an unconventional Cliff Park. It was a little patch of dirt just off the road, but from there you could see Spokane far and wide. It was amazing to be able to see campus and downtown and mountains in the distance. The view truly exceeded our expectations.

It wasn’t the adventure we were expecting, but it was the adventure we took. And it 100% paid off. So next time you’re looking for something to do, remember the detours are sometimes greater than the destination.
