Reactions to the Roses–Nick Viall Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gonzaga chapter.

Hello Bachelor Nation!  And welcome back readers to my weekly article discussing my favorite and least favorite parts of each week’s episode of The Bachelor.  This year we are lucky enough to have Nick Viall capture our hearts every Monday night at 8pm while he tries to navigate through reality television to find his future wife and soul mate!  If you are new here, no need to worry!  I will get you all caught up!  So sit back, relax, open up your bottle of wine, grab your prediction cards, and let’s get started!

In case you haven’t been following along with what’s been happening in Bachelor nation for the past few years, let me give you some context on Nick Viall and why he’s so controversial this season as the Bachelor.  Nick first showed up as a contestant on Andi Dorfman’s season of the Bachelorette in 2014.  After coming second to Josh Murray, he went home crying and with some new realizations.

Then, after a season of the Bachelor, we saw Nick again on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season.  Except this time, he wasn’t a regular contestant.  He showed up halfway through the season and tried to win Kaitlyn’s heart.  She had feelings for him, they slept together, but eventually she ended up choosing another man during the finale, and he came in second once again.

Nick became the villains of all villains in Bachelor nation.  (Even more than Olivia.)  He was hated each season he was on because of his arrogance and jerky attitude.  Trust me, you wanted Andi to pick Josh Murray in that finale.  And Shawn Boothe was a much better choice for Kaitlyn in the long run.  Ultimately, Nick was the worst.

Then something incredible happened.  He went on to Bachelor in Paradise Season 3 (this past summer) and he fell in love yet again.  This time with Jen Saviano, a tall brunette from Ben Higgins’ season.  While the two became incredibly close and a proposal was on the table, the big storyline of the summer was how Nick became a hero again in Bachelor nation while Josh Murray took his place as the ultimate villain.  America fell in love, and even felt bad, for Nick as he realized he hadn’t found his true love yet again in Paradise.  He said goodbye to Jen, but ultimately took the job as the next Bachelor, one of the biggest twists in Bachelor nation history.  (Which is saying something)

So here we are just a few short months since watching Nick break up with Jen in Mexico.  But I am feeling good about his season as the Bachelor, especially after watching tonight’s episode!  While week one is the most boring episode of the season, at least we get to look at lots of Nick montages!

And I’m sure there are many more to come!  Now not many of the girls made great or memorable first impressions (although there was the girl on the camel!) but there were many awkward encounters.  First off, Alexis (aka Dolphin/Shark girl) was an “aspiring dolphin trainer” from Florida and refused to believe she was dressed up in a shark costume, and kept insisting she was a dolphin.  Good find, ABC.

We have to talk about Liz, too.  Liz was the maid of honor at Jade and Tanner’s wedding last January, and she ended up having sex with Nick after the wedding.  But when he asked for her number, SHE DIDN’T GIVE IT TO HIM.  And then she had the guts to come onto the show and see if he even remembered her??!!?? What is going on this season?? I could tell this was definitely a set up by ABC to try and get more drama going this season.  Clearly Nick was uncomfortable with the entire situation, especially when he tried to call her out on her intentions and it was just so uncomfy.  While I wanted to see her go home last night, ABC probably forced Nick to keep her around so she can let her secret known to the girls and cause “the most dramatic season”.

Corinne is sure to be this season’s villain.  And her nanny?? Come on.  This season is getting out of hand already.  What’s up with her tokens??  SO much is already wrong with this gal.  Unfortunately, I bet she sticks around for awhile so I guess I’ll have to get used to her antics.  Next week she takes her top off while on a group date so that should be interesting.  Good luck to all of the other girls when dealing with her.  I couldn’t do it.

Anyway, nothing exciting happened except we got to see lots of drama already.  Girls were crying, roses were handed out, and we saw Nick’s butt on television.  It was all good and made my Monday night.  I hope you guys enjoyed it and will continue to follow along as Nick goes on his FOURTH journey to find love.  It’s sure to be
