The First Drive Home
We know how you’re feeling. The drive is never ending as you’re picturing yourself opening the front door of your house and preparing yourself for the “so college” stories you will tell your friends over takeout and wine. You’re craving home-cooked meals, a shower sans-shoes, and the familiarity of you sleeping in your own bed. There’s so much you can’t wait to do, yet so little time to squeeze it all in!
The Reunion With Your Friends
Seeing your friends is the first thing on your to-do list. The dramatic run-up-and-hug-each-other-until-you-can’t-breathe is inevitable. For freshmen, this is the first time you’ve been away from your old friends for such a long period of time, and for upperclassmen, another opportunity to catch up and laugh over the stories that you’ve formed. Prepare yourself for a long night.
Revisiting Your Favorite Foods
Whether it’s getting a ham, egg, and cheese bagel or that deli sandwich that’s makes your mouth water, that’s the next thing you rush to do upon arriving. You’ve nearly sobbed while explaining how delicious these foods are to your college friends and insisted that when they come visit these foods are a must have. Unlike at school, there is not a single worry in your mind about having to work these foods off: you’ve earned it this time. Feast away my friends!
Driving Again
Getting in your car again may be the most foreign feeling (if not forgotten skill) in the world. Hopefully you can make your way down the driveway without hitting the light post. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it again, you’re cruising. Rolling down the windows, blasting music— this is most definitely a pasttime you missed. Who knew driving could feel so good?
Seeing Your Significant Other
Okay, so we all clearly missed our pets the most. Whether it be a dog, cat, fish, or any other type, there was major separation anxiety the second you left your house on move-in day. Being welcomed once you walk through the door with an overwhelming amount of kisses (or any other type of gratification) is easily the best feeling in the entire world. After all, your pets are your lifelongs friends, the ones who have (literally) been around for all your embarrassing moments and never even commented on how weird you were. Snuggle up, everyone.
Family Time
Eventually, you’re gonna want to spend some time with the family. After all, as many times as you may try to deny it, you really did miss them while you were away. A nice homecooked meal at the dinner table, game nights, or even a relaxed movie will do just fine. Just having everyone around will be the most comforting feeling, regardless if Dad, Mom, or your siblings are asleep ten minutes into that romcom. You hate to admit it, but you kind of missed being teased.. Okay, maybe not so much, but take it in before the big departure back to school.
