My Favorite On-Screen Couples

To wrap up the “Valentine’s Theme Week” for Her Campus at Gettysburg, I am listing some of my favorite on-screen couples. I know that there are some that I likely missed, so these are only a few of the couples that have stuck with me. Buckle up, and get ready for a sappy recap of some of my favorite on-screen couples (in no particular order)!

Katniss and Peeta, The Hunger Games

A classic. Once I told the other girls in Her Campus at Gettysburg that I was writing this article, Katniss and Peeta were immediately brought up. They truly are a classic of our time, and those who thrived off of dystopian books and movies are sure to have rooted for this couple. With the endless debate between Peeta and Gale, there are some people out there with very strong opinions about each character, but Peeta won me over in the long run. It also helps that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcheron portrayed these characters perfectly.

Although, I will admit… I did root for Gale at times.

Rachel and Nick, Crazy Rich Asians

This movie is amazing and in my opinion, so underrated. If you haven’t watched Crazy Rich Asians, go see it right now! It’s the perfect encapsulation of comedy, drama, and romance, so if you are a fan of any or all of these genres, be sure to check it out.

Rachel and Nick are a wonderful couple despite their ups and downs, and my appreciation for them only grows throughout the movie. Also, the mahjong scene where Rachel “gives up” Nick in order for his mother to be happy is one of the best scenes in the entire movie, and of course, it is followed up by the heartwarming plane proposal scene.

Mia and Sebastian, La La Land

Mia and Sebastian serve as the perfect example of the “right person at the wrong time” trope.  I still remember the first time I watched La La Land and was devastated that these two did not end up together at the end.  When Sebastian played their theme over the piano as Mia watched (inside of “Seb’s,” the jazz club name and logo that Mia had created for Sebastian)… it was absolutely heartbreaking.  However, after some time passed, I realized that maybe it was best that these two didn’t stick together.  At least we all have the beautiful songs to remember them by.

T’Challa and Nakia, Black Panther

This couple has stuck with me despite the limited time we were able to see them on-screen. I loved their development throughout Black Panther, and T’Challa freezing when he sees Nakia after time apart? Amazing… and hilarious (“Like an antelope in headlights.”). Spoiler alert for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but I am very excited that their son has been introduced in the MCU so that we can see the impact he will have and the legacy that lives on from T’Challa.

Jim and Pam, The Office

I feel like it would be wrong to not include Jim and Pam on this list.

Once I binged The Office, I was one of those people rooting for Jim and Pam from the start.  So many of their relationship’s moments are memorable: endlessly pranking Dwight together, Jim proposing at the gas station in the rain, the dancing scene at their wedding, and so many more. This couple may have their flaws, but they will always have a special place in my heart.

Han and LEia, Star Wars

“I love you.”

“I know.”

That’s really all I should have to say. He thought she was a spoiled princess, and she thought he was a “laserbrain.” This couple went from insulting one another constantly to finally admitting that they were meant to be. I’m not going to mention their apparent split that is revealed during the sequels… just ignore that and act like it never happened.

Nick and Jess, New Girl

These two seemed to go back and forth with one another for ages, but it made it that much more satisfying when they finally stuck with each other.  Jess doing finger guns when Nick tells her that he loves her?  Iconic.  Meeting Prince together?  I mean, c’mon, talk about a bonding experience.

In all honesty, I could have included numerous other New Girl relationships on this list as well: Schmidt and Cece, Winston and Aly, and let’s not forget one of the most important bonds on the show… Winston and Ferguson.

Peter and MJ, Spider-Man

I’m an MCU fan and love Spider-Man, so it’s only fitting that I add Peter and MJ to this list (to be clear, I am referring to the Tom Holland and Zendaya era of Spider-Man). Between Peter trying to find a black dahlia necklace for MJ in Spider-Man: Far from Home and then MJ not wanting to forget about Peter in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is safe to say that this couple has pulled at my heartstrings.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s Peter and Gwen are also a notable Spider-Man couple, but with their tragic ending, I couldn’t bring myself to put them on this list.

Those are some of my favorite on-screen couples! Who do you think I missed?
