Today, I found out that we are half-way through the semester, which means that I am half-way through my final semester of undergrad. To be honest, this news made me stop and pause. I can’t believe that we are halfway through this semester and that this is not just a regular year of college: this is senior year. It might sound silly but it is kind of crazy that we are at the halfway point. I won’t lie, while senior year has lots of fun parts, lately there have been some stressors too. I am pretty confident that I am not the only one feeling this way. I guess I would describe this period of time as a bit of a juggling act. As seniors, we have to focus on our current role as students, and we have to worry about our classes and assignments, and for a lot of us, that includes a capstone or final paper. But that’s not it. We also have to keep our eyes on our post-grad plans or ideas. It might not sound like a lot, but at times, I will admit that I have felt overwhelmed. It can be a lot to manage, and I find that most of the time there is a lot on my mind. However, I am working on just focusing on doing the best I can and trying to split my focus on both my studies and my career plans.
I do want to send a little message to my fellow seniors though. I want to say that I know we are all a little burnt-out right now, ready for a break, and maybe overwhelmed by all that we have to think about and consider. I wanted to write this to say that you are not alone. I am right there with you. But, I did want to write a little reminder to myself and all of you to enjoy these next few months. As stressful as it will undoubtedly get, I hope we all find the time to take in the experience that is college. I hope we enjoy time with our friends and we appreciate the professors that have impacted us in meaningful ways. Sure, for lots of people, this is not the last school experience they will have, but as someone once said to me, you only get one undergrad experience. So, here’s to the halfway point. I hope we all celebrate where we are and work hard but also enjoy these next few months.
