Campus Celebrity: Maria from the Commons

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.

Many of us know her as the nice employee at Commons Café, but I’m lucky enough to get to work with Maria Shellenhamer. Here is a little inside info about the beloved cashier and barista.

Goofing off at Commons Café and having a little too much fun with our elf on the shelf, Tazo.

HC: How long have you been working at Commons?

MS: It’ll be three years in January.

HC: What is the best thing about working here?

MS: I like working with the students and I really like conversing with prospective students and their parents when they’re touring.

HC: What is your favorite thing about Gettysburg?

MS: I love the battlefields, ghost tours, ghosts… I like pretending there are ghosts even if there aren’t. I don’t want to say there aren’t because I don’t want to get haunted by them. But the battlefields at dawn are my favorite. As a kid, I always knew I’d end up here as an adult.

HC: What is your go-to drink from Commons?

MS: Iced refresh, zen, and awake tea.

HC: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

MS: Spend time with my family and watch movies.

HC: One of our go-to questions here at HC Gettysburg, but if you could be any dog, what breed would you be?

MS: A golden retriever.
