Campus Celebrity: Hurricane Joaquin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.

The past few days here at Gettysburg have been quite rainy, and its predicted to stay that way for a while. With all the fuss over a single fallen tree last week, students could only guess the chaos the arrival of Hurricane Joaquin would cause.

Joaquin has been making waves around campus, with his upgrade to a Category 4 Hurricane. PA Governor Tom Wolf even had an emergency declaration on stand by.

Anticipation for the hurricane’s arrival is seen throughout the campus community, including in Yaks such as: “Makin my way downtown, Joaquin fast” and “Assert your dominance: tell the weatherman to warn Joaquin you’re coming”.

Yet, after all the anticipation and preparation, the latest predictions are that by the time Joaquin moves this far north, it will be hundreds of miles out into the ocean. Most likely, Gettysburg will still see a lot of dreary days in the next week with rain and wind, but no full fledged hurricane— yes, classes will still be in session. Sorry to rain on the parade.
