Thanksgiving is a great time to relax a bit and prepare for the coming onslaught of finals. But, one of the best things about it is being able to see family and friends that you haven’t seen for a while. And a great thing to do with family and friends is going to see a newly released movie. So, let’s take a look at some movies that were premiered this past Friday, just in time for Thanksgiving break!

1. At Eternity’s Gate

Vox

This is a movie that looks at a series of scenes from Vincent Van Gogh’s life. This film seems like it won’t be quite as artistic as the last movie to come out about him, which was completely painted. Still, it serves to give a little more insight into his life and the experiences he had.

2. Instant Family

This film is definitely geared towards being a comedy, though it also deals with some serious themes. It’s about a couple who are looking to foster a child and partially accidentally end up with three. This might just be the feel good comedy of the season.

3. Jonathan

This one is interesting. It’s about two boys who share one body. One is present during the day and the other at night. But! They both fall for the same girl. Honestly, it seems a bit cliché. And this might turn out to be a little less of a romantic film as a story about revenge and fighting against yourself.

4. Crimes of Grindelwald

Now this is a film that a lot have been waiting for a while. It’s been hyped up so much that we can only hope it’s as good as we hope. Without spoiling anything, it does seem like there’s going to be three semi-separate storylines being followed. So, if nothing else, you have a one out of three chance of liking at least one!

5. Green Book

This film looks like it’s going to be a bit different from the others. It’s about a famous African-American pianist who is doing a tour through the deep south in 1962 and hires a rough and tumble white guy as his driver. On the surface it seems like a reversed Driving Mrs. Daisy, and it does seem similar with the themes of learning and mutual growth. It does seem like this promising to be a pretty great and relatable film.

6. A Private War

This is definitely the roughest film on the list. Probably not a good family film due to the high level of violence and war.  Still, this looks like it’s going to be a pretty powerful film revolving around the themes of truth in journalism. It follows a journalist who goes directly into places experience war to report on their stories.

It’s always a shame to have so many great films coming out at the same time. There’s never enough time to see them all. Still, hopefully you’ll be able to find some time over this break to see whichever one interests you most.
