1. At this point, my friends must be getting annoyed with me for how much I say this show is “just so GOOD!” However impassioned I feel compared to that description, though, it really is fully captivating and beautiful. It’s a story of robbers, and not what you might assume. Everything is so thought out that following it is a genuine rollercoaster. I cannot tell you how many times I physically gasped during this show. I cried and laughed a heck of a lot too.

2. The characters will, no matter what, make you feel. When you think of a robbery, or when you think of people who have been in and out of jail for drugs, you tend to stray from viewing them as great people. But this show has a plethora of characters who, while they might be doing “wrong,” you love them in the end. The show progresses to the point that shows it’s human nature to be both a villain and a hero, and mistakes do not make you one or the other.

3. This is MY most important reason, but there is a LOT of female empowerment. Nairobi in particular is a powerful woman. So much so that I have her face plastered on my room, my computer, etc. My favorite part – I swear it’s not going to ruin the show if I tell you – is her teaching a girl to believe in herself, screaming “Soy la puta ama!” to the mirror. This translates to “I’m the f***ing boss.” We all need the fierceness that the women in this show display.

4. If you are learning Spanish, or even just want to get into the language, it is SUCH a productive way to learn and immerse yourself in the language. While you can listen to it with dubbed over English, that’s way less fun (not to mention gives you weird voice actors). Spanish audio with English subtitles is the way to go.

5. In daily life, we may watch a lot of TV, but we don’t always necessarily pay attention to it. We still have our tie to our regular lives, us texting our friends, us checking social media. Watching this for 48 minutes, when you have time to pay attention (since you need to read the subtitles), is an escape from reality. Getting a break from checking social media and the constant communication of regular life can be way more refreshing than you might realize.
