1.  “Gettysburg?  Oh, in Virginia, right?”

2.  “I could never go to school so far away from home.”  

This comes off as either horribly condescending or just plain confusing.

3.  “We never see each other anymore!”

Um . . . because I’m not around?

4.  “Wait, what time is it there?”  

3 AM . . . and I have a 9 AM, so please go drunk call someone else.

5.  “So, what are you doing for ________ break?”

Actually, not much.  You see, my family isn’t crazy wealthy, so I can’t fly back every vacation.  

6.  “I bet your mom isn’t too happy about that.”  

No, actually, she’s thrilled that I’m pursuing my dreams, even if they take me out of state.  

7.  “What’s going to happen if you aren’t around and something happens?”

I’m sorry, do I judge you for staying in the same town all your life?  And why is it any of your business?

No, I’m living out of my suitcase because it’s the first week back from school and I’m lazy.
