The new app, Yik Yak has college students around the world constantly talking, and now it has finally hit the campus of Georgia Southern University. Yik Yak, founded by two Furman University students, Tyler Droll and Brooks Buffington, aimed to create an app that allows anonymous college students to post freely as they please about whatever is on their mind, or just things going on around campus. Yik Yak did just that when the app was released in 2013.
Not sure how Yik Yak works? Well, Yik Yak is fairly easy to use. It’s just as simple as posting a random thought. After posting, others students who remain anonymous (or yakers as you would call them) are allowed to up-vote or down-vote a statement. Once a statement is down-voted for the fouth time, it is automatically deleted, and Yaks that receive at least twenty or more up-votes will be put it top yaks category. If you’re tempted to comment on someone’s yak, then you are free to do so without anyone knowing who you are, like stated earlier. There is also an option available if you choose to add your location, but since this app is suppose to let students call themselves anonymous, most people do not put a location.
Yik Yak is very entertaining, and very fun for the most, but since its release in 2013, there has been some negative feedback and reports of bullying. Since then, Yik Yak has come up with several solutions to decrease the negativity of the app. Overall, with this fairly new app, you’ll definitely be surprised not only at yourself but at your fellow school mates, and what goes on inside their heads on a day to day basis.
