If you’ve been paying attention, then you know that all women are fed up. This year women (I prefer womyn but for the sake of this article) have decided that #timesup on sexual harassment and it’s time to break the silence.

Who is responsible for all the silence breakers? Feminist of course. The feminist movement is one of the most progressive movements to ever exist. I would even argue that many other movements that strive for equality look at the feminist movement as a template. The feminist movement is known as one of the most progressive movements because feminist goals were made to change ideologies and push social norms, therefore propelling the civil rights movement. The ideologies of the feminist movement allowed for the progression of the civil rights movement, allowing it to flourish. However, it may seem like we’ve been making progress but 2017 showed us all that we haven’t gotten as far as we have hoped. Things have changed since the first wave of feminism, but can we honestly say it’s been progressive…. or suppressive?

In the midst of the continuously appalling sexual harassment accusations (mostly towards men in power), it seems as if the levee broke and the so did the silence. Just this past weekend thousands of people flooded the streets all over the country in solidarity for women’s rights. A ton of celebrities joined the marchers and A-listers such as Viola Davis, Halsey, Scarlett Johansson, and Natalie Portman even stepped up to address the crowds; every single one of their speeches went viral.

I’m going to leave you all with some of my favorite signs that showed up on my twitter feed. These womyn are amazing and for those of us who weren’t able to make any of the marches, I’m sure we all wish that we were out there right beside them.
