What’s Popping: Netflix Movies and Shows You Should Give A Try (If You Haven’t Already)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

One of the first things a lot of us do when we are bored and have some time to spare is check out Netflix. Sometimes you have no idea what to watch or what’s good. Here are a few suggestions to check out for those desperate times. Happy binging!

Amateur

This movie was recently added on Netflix and I think it was well worth the watch. It tells the story of an extremely talented, young teenager recruited to play basketball at a prep school. The movie is eye-opening and puts emphasis on corruption, greed and the act of deceiving – something a lot of athletes may be able to relate to, sadly.

Unbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt

Unbreakable sis hilarious and some may even call it “dumb humor”. The main character, Kimmy, was locked in an underground bunker, with three other women, by a cult-leading preacher for 15 years who deceived the girls, making them believe the world had ended. It may sound serious, but hardly anything in this show is taken seriously. It follows her adventures of entering the world as a 30-year-old woman who has not experienced any type of adulthood before.

The Office

The Office was a show I always overlooked before, until maybe a month or two ago when I decide to give it a try. I was not left disappointed. It is full of dry humor that I cry laughing at. I cannot believe I have been missing out on The Office all these years, but better late than never.

Pets

Everyone needs a little animation in their life. You are never too old for the animated flicks and Pets is a good one. This movie gives an idea of what goes on in the lives of everyday pets when their owners are not around. Come one, it is okay to laugh, too.

Seven Seconds

This series is a reflection of what is going on today. It displays the corruption behind the force that has failed us too many times. It follows policemen attempting to cover up the murder of an African American boy and a mother fighting for her son’s justice – something we all have lived through to witness. It may upset you, but it is real.

Slasher

If you have a thing for horror and thrillers, this one is perfect for you. It will keep you jumping and definitely make you turn your head away from the screen a few times. This series has only two complete series, but it’s worth the watch. (opinion: season one is better)
