Classy not Trashy Southern

What not to Wear! Fall 2014

As the colder weather makes it’s way into our humble southern town of Statesboro, GA a wardrobe change makes it’s way into our lovely summer closets. Here in the South our ladies love the summer time; they feed of the sun’s energy while enjoying wearing shorts, sandals and tank tops! Now that fall weather makes its way into our happy southern lives ladies are pulling out the big sweaters, leggings and pumpkin spice lattes. One thing to keep in mind when dressing for the weather is to make sure you are looking Sassy and Classy NOT Trashy and Crappy like those App. State Mountaineers.

Let’s begin, shall we?

One of the most common fall fashion mistakes found not only here at Southern but also around the country is the infamous Ugg boot and jean short combination.

Ladies PLEASE stop wearing this outfit! Check the weather app on your phones before picking out your OOTD. There is no sympathy given to you when it is below 70 degrees Fahrenheit and you decide to wear your daisy dukes and Uggs as your only form of protection from the cold. We all miss the hot summer days, but wearing shorts around campus will not change the weather or that wind chill for the day. It goes for you chicas as well who have decided to move that summer fringe boot and shorts fashion into the fall. Ladies again STAHP, it’s below 70 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill factor there is no need to sacrifice your beautiful still sun kissed skin for the want to wear shorts, plus the boots aren’t helping you get any warmer. FRING NAH to this fashion “statement” in the fall.

The next fashion NO-NO most ladies are guilty of during this colder season of the year all around the country is the LEGGING. Not entirely the legging itself but the misuse of the legging as an article of clothing.  According to Google Search, leggings are tight-fitting stretch pants, typically worn by women or girls; protective coverings for the legs. Ladies, just because Google tells you they are pants does not give you the right to wear them as such EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. OF. THE. WEEK.

Leggings should never be work as a substitute for any form of pants. They were not created to protect the legs from cold temperatures nor are they manufactured in durable fabric. Do not go out in public wearing leggings as pants without checking yourself in the mirror, more than 99.99% of the time leggings stretch and the fabric thins out more than it already is making it see-through and exposing areas of the body that only you and your significant other should see.

FEAR NOT! There are the RIGHT ways and the WRONG ways to wear your beloved leggings without shame here in the good OL’ SOUTH! One sure fire way to avoid exposure of your lady areas is to fashion your leggings with longer tops/blouses or get comfy with your favorite over-sized sweater. Don’t forget to match your outfit with your favorite boot/bootie and the perfect accessories.

Next on our list for common fashions do NOT’s we find here at Georgia Southern is the infamous T-shirt and Nike Shorts (Norts) look. Although a comfortable and easy go-to outfit most ladies prefer, wearing athletic clothing, including sweats, everyday without having the greatest intentions of stopping by the RAC for a quick workout is a bit saddening. We are all swamped with loads of schoolwork and then the struggles of keeping up with our social lives but that in no way shape or form entitles us to look like bums every day of the week.

Just imagine if you wore some cute skinnies, long sleeved blouse paired with the PERFECT PAIR of boots that guy you spotted waiting in line at Chick-Fil-A in the union would have NOTICED you! Ladies, we all come in different shapes and sizes but that doesn’t mean just because we at a size 00 or 16 we no longer have to try to look our very best. In the south, especially here at Georgia Southern, women do not dress to impress the men, we dress to instill confidence and make our presence known as we walk into the lecture hall. We are all GORGEOUS women of THE Georgia Southern University, lets dress to rule the campus!

While we are all on the same page and making sure we are ready for our fall wardrobes, let us not forget that make up is also a very important fall accessory. As for commonly popular makeup for the fall here are Her Campus Georgia Southern we bring you the SMOKEY EYE tips!

When most ladies think of the SMOKEY EYE we think “Raccoon Eyes”

The truth is that there are a variety of different ways you can accomplish a Smokey eye look this fall! Don’t be afraid of the Smokey Eye, accept it and embrace it. College is about new experiences is it not?

Here a fellow and FIERCE Georgia Southern University makeup artist Jayme Sue Branch took the Smokey Eye and made it her own with shades of gold.
