In college, you are faced with challenges and circumstances, both good and bad. This is a time where you need all the support you can get. I am stuck with busy schedules a full workload while also trying to fit in a social life, figure things out and keep myself grounded. With all of that, the one thing I do not have time for is bad company.

I cannot be surround by people who are negative, unsupportive, fake or those who do not have my best interest at heart. I have learned that when you stay around people with bad vibes, you start to think and speak like them. College is already a lot to deal with as it is and the last thing you need to worry about is the true intentions of those around you. Whether it’s a relationship or a friendship, if the person involved is bringing you down and cannot be the right energy you need around you in a time like this, you need to cut it.

It may be hard, but sometimes you just need to cut some people off. It is okay to love people from a distance and it is possible to leave someone behind on a good note. I have seen people, including myself, breaking their backs trying to make things work between people, even though the relationship or friendship had all types of negative consequences on them. You have three tests coming up, an assignment due in thirty minutes and a group project that must be presented tomorrow, there is no time to be wasted stressing over others who could possibly be affecting your own mental health. Trust me, there are good people out there who will make your college experience, and even overall well-being, better, not add to the problems that this milestone called college may already give you. Leave the people who make you cry and lean towards the people who will help you study.  Nobody is worth sacrificing my solitude for, and I am not sorry for choosing myself before you.
