#SheEmpowers: More Than An Eye Pleaser

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

This one is for us.

As women, we have equipped ourselves to regain the power that many try so desperately to strip away from us.

Through generations and decades, women are thankfully beginning to think for themselves and fighting harder than ever before. This is the age of empowerment.

There is nothing comparable to the diligence and confidence of an empowered woman. The voice of a woman is remarkable and overturns barriers. We are not only here to bear children and please eyes. We are doing more than saying. We are no longer dreaming but transforming dreams into plans and visions. We are changing how our strength is perceived. We are becoming a dominating force all while breaking free from socially constructed shackles.

To be empowered, one must first experience a deprivation of their own power. This is a dreadful, low point. From that, she can pick herself up from that position, recreate who she is and forcibly own her power back while redefining herself to evolve.

Empowerment is not something you can hand from one person to the next. Someone can guide you and bestow encouragement upon you and give you the necessary tools, but it is up to you to recreate yourself from any learned experience.

Self-empowerment is a beautiful concept we are naturally gifted with. Some take longer than others to realize this precious gift, but it is there. Something that is even more beautiful than empowering ourselves is empowering one another. As a woman, the only person who can genuinely understand your position, what you have to endure and the worry you may suffer is a woman.

We live in a world where not only do men feel entitled enough to try to tell us what we can or cannot do with our bodies, but also there are men who think they know better than we do and will attempt to host a women’s empowerment panel to tell us how to survive in a male-dominated workforce with not one female panelist in sight.

There will always be a need for women’s empowerment. A plant cannot grow without water, sunlight and proper nutrition. Women are like plants. We cannot reach higher positions, whether it be personal, spiritual or work-related, without becoming stronger and overflowing with confidence. Through empowering one another, we are becoming stronger as one. We live in a society where women are pitted against each other and constantly being judged for every little detail. We are responsible for lifting each other up because we already have outsiders trying to drag us down.

We are celebrating fellow women and their achievements, telling women how proud we are of them and supporting each and every craft. Through it all, we are acknowledging those before us who made it possible for us to own businesses, reach leadership positions and not be afraid to let our creativity thrive.

A confidently driven woman is unstoppable. Once you have gathered your own, help the next woman reach their full potential and realize what it means to be a woman. There is more to us than our struggles. Show them what it is that a woman does. She empowers.
