For those who don’t watch the news, this article may serve you some justice. It should be known that President Obama officially leaves office January 20, 2017. Which means he has a little under a year left to serve as our president. While some are happy about this and others sad either way another president will be sworn in before we know it. Since social media is a huge thing now, it is normal to go on Twitter or Facebook and be able to follow our very own president. You won’t necessarily get a follow back, but you will still be able to view his thoughts and see what he is up to on a normal basis.
Now let me give you some history, popularity has always served presidential candidates well when they are running to become the next president. Only four presidents have won off of the electoral vote such as John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, Benjamin Harrison, and George W. Bush. All other presidents have won off of the popular vote including our current president, President Obama. In previous generations even back when John F. Kennedy was running for office, people enjoyed watching the televised debates. This let people see who their presidential candidate really was. This also helped people pick who they wanted to vote for. Back then social media was not a “thing”, but now people have yet another way to decide who they want to vote for.
If you watch the news or have social media, you may have heard of at least one presidential debate that has happened recently or even seen some of the controversy Donald Trump has caused. Donald Trump has been in the news more than ever since he announced he was running for office. Not to mention some of his scandalous tweets that have caused an uproar all over America. Of course, we have to speak on all the other Republican candidates as well such as Jeb Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Gov. John Kasich, and Sen. Marco Rubio. Although some names I did not name dropped out the race recently, I’m sure you recognize most of the names I listed especially Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio who are currently the top three Republican candidates.
On the contrary, the Democratic party as of right now has Hillary Clinton leading with Bernie Sanders following close behind, and Martin O’Malley as well. Based on the polls, we may have our first woman president if Clinton plays her cards right. We finally had our first black president, so I would not put it past America. Although everyone has their own views on having a woman president, we will have to wait and see how the rest of America feels.
This all being said, if you are still undecided on your candidate it would be advised to start watching some of the presidential candidates, start checking the polls, check social media, and by all means make sure you vote. Rather Clinton, Trump, Sanders, Cruz, or Rubio wins it will be interesting to see how this presidential race turns out.
