Knowing your Spirit; Adveristy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Adversity is defined on google as “difficulties; misfortune”. We do not live in a perfect world so we are bound to face adversity. Even if we did live in a perfect world, I could guarantee there would still be just as much adversity. With that being said it is all about how we chose to react to adversity. Will you let the situation control you or will you control it? Everyone in life has problems, even the most successful people. It is just all about how you chose to approach and react to them. It is super easy to get discouraged when things don’t go the way we planned. You must remember that it is mind over matter. As humans we want to react out of emotion; that is our nature. But that will not always get us to where we wanna be. With a positive attitude you can get through anything.

To be honest I am facing adversity everyday because I am a college students. Lol, that sounds harsh but it is the truth. College is not easy. If it was everyone would be doing it. But I have learned that you have to be your own motivator. When things get hard you don’t just give up. I’m halfway through my degree, why would I stop? I have had days where I have definitely asked myself “why am I even here?”, “what’s the point of this” but even when I got discouraged like that I got up and went to class anyway. It is important to remind yourself what you’re working towards. That is why all the trouble is worth it. If it was so easy to get there was it really worth it? Take the challenge. Decide not to give up when things get hard. Refocus your mind. What are you here for? What do you want in the end? How are you handling your adversities? I say your because everyone’s problems are different. You can’t compare your success to someone else because everyone is dealt a different hand. The cards your working with are not the same as the person next to you. Maybe yours are a little better, or a little weaker; that doesn’t matter. If you know how to play, you can win. Everyone is on a different journey. We are all at different points in our journey so do not compare your troubles to someone elses. You never know what people are dealing with. So whatever you’re going through, know that it will all be okay soon. You’re still here right? Breathing? Living? You have somewhere to live? Somewhere to Sleep? Well you’re already doing better than a lot of people. Trust and embrace your struggles. It always works out the way it’s supposed to in the end. After all, Adversity builds character. What is a life without a little bit of struggle?

Peace and love always,
