HerSports: Homecoming Handling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Georgia Southern celebrated its homecoming this past week with lots of fun events for students and alumni throughout the week, including the homecoming game Saturday afternoon against South Alabama.

Georgia Southern is now 6-0 against South Alabama after handling the visiting Jaguars 48-13 on Saturday.

Led by quarterback Shai Werts, who currently leads the team in both passing yards and rushing yards, the offense was a force to be reckoned with as they seem to really be getting into a groove this season.

Running backs Monteo Garrett and Wesley Fields, along with Werts, each rushed for over 80 yards on Saturday. The Eagles are known for running the option offense and with the weapons this team has, it has really worked well for them.

The team’s defense has also improved tremendously since last season with the help of a killer secondary. Led by cornerback Monquavion Brinson and safety Joshua Moon who are both in control of defensive tackles with 29 and 20.

The defensive front has also been flourishing with senior defensive end Logan Hunt leading the charge with three sacks this season.

The Eagles are pumped up right now after starting 2-0 in Sunbelt Conference play and hope to only get better from here. These guys look new and improved this season and there is one big offseason move that is making all of the difference right now. This team definitely has the ‘Swag Like Chad’.

The Eagles have been on a real hot streak this season under new head coach Chad Lunsford, who has this team looking and feeling great. The team is 4-1 this season, already doubling their win total from last season. I’d say this guy is pretty legit and has all of Eagle Nation excited for the places that this team could go.

Georgia Southern goes on the road this Thursday to face the Texas State Bobcats as they look to move to 3-0 in the conference and 5-1 on the season.

GAMECHANGERS
