Habits That We Lost and Deperately Need back

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Over the years there has been a drastic drop in some of the traditions and habits that made us less chivalrous and mannered. Regardless of the reasons there are some habits that should be brought back as soon as yesterday! We have composed a list of our top ten habits that need to be brought back in this generation.

Opening the car door.

We refuse to believe that chivalry is dead. It might be tucked away in the attack, but not dead.  Opening the door is a simple gesture that makes your woman feel like she’s a queen.

Coming to the door to pick someone up.

With the advances of technology more people who rather shoot a quick text saying “I’m outside” versus turning off the car and walking to the door to ring the doorbell. Making the small gestures are a simple yet effective way to show your date you really care about making this date the total package.

Saying thank you after a date.

Manners will get you a long way in life. Saying a simple thank you not only shows appreciation for the date but it also shows that you are well mannered and worth a second date.

Straightforwardly asking someone on a date and not calling it a “hang out”.

Let’s be honest here, no one wants their crush to just ask them to hang out. Hang outs are for FRIENDS. If you like someone take them out to show them that you are actually interested and not just trying to shack up.

Actually being clear about when you are going “steady”.

The most dreaded words in any relationship are, “So what are we?” Although it is a tough conversation to be had, it needs to be addressed at some point. This conversation keeps everyone on the same page and no one gets left out in the cold alone.

Trying to dress nicely on dates.

At one point in time people use to actually spend hours thinking of the perfect outfit for a date! What happened? Now people will just simply throw on a t shirt and jeans and walk right out the door. Come on now! Even if you just wear your hair in a different style or wear different cologne a little effort goes a long way. Dressing nicely also spices up the relationship.

Going dancing, and we do not mean grinding at your local club or bar.

Date nights are designed to be fun, spontaneous, and time where two people can enjoy each other’s company while learning more about each other. We am not too certain how many successful relationships have begun in a bar/club, but we are almost positive this is a terrible date. It is okay to go with your significant other to the local parties but do not, we repeat, do not make this a date!

Not having a timeline for sex.

There is enough sexual exploitation on the web to go around. In a relationship just let things naturally progress. Having a time line for sex put a damper on things that could potentially be worthwhile.

Turning off electronics and just enjoying the company of one another.

Cell phones, iPads, laptops and tablets all have to go. Dates are only a couple of hours long and I am pretty sure you can disconnect from social media for a while. Why would you be focused on other people’s life when you have someone waiting to get to know you in your presence?

Being open and honest with communications about how you feel and what you want from one another.

Honesty has not always been such a hard thing to do. Although emotions might be running rapid in your relationship it is still important to take a step back and articulate everything you are feeling and in return actively listening to the other person’s feelings and viewpoints as well.
