Over the past few years, I’ve been taking the long, hard, and often frustrating journey from relaxed hair to natural hair. There are some days that I regret it, and some days that I’m so happy that I finally took the plunge. Whether I’m loving my hair or fighting with it, I wouldn’t have been able to take this journey without some of my “holy grail” hair products (as the Youtubers say). If you’re in the market for some phenomenal hair products, then this is for you! Here are my go-to products for natural and transitioning hair.
Shampoo
Something I’ve learned on my road to natural hair, is the fact that the shampoo you use doesn’t matter all that much (at least for my hair). I’ve discovered that I don’t have to use the overpriced natural or organic products that the hair gurus rave about. I have been using Tresame shampoo on my hair and loving it! It doesn’t dry my hair out, and this stuff gets my hair super clean! If you are looking to try a new shampoo, I would highly recommend trying it out once or twice to see if you like it for your hair.
Rinse out conditioner
Personally, I think conditioner is one of the most important products that you put in your hair. It is used to nourish, moisturize, and strengthen hair, so I like to be pretty selective with what kind of conditioner I’m using. Personally, I love Carol’s Daughter products. The Black Vanilla hydrating conditioner is one of the best conditioners that I’ve ever used. It leaves my hair moisturized from one wash day to the next. This stuff even helps me define my curls, and as an added bonus, it smells AMAZING!
Leave-In Conditioner
Sometimes, (usually when I’m feeling kind of lazy), I opt for a leave-in conditioner rather than one that needs to be rinsed out. When I do this, I always used the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream. It is probably one of the most hydrating and moisturizing products I’ve ever used on my hair! It defines curls, nourishes, hydrates, and just like the rinse out conditioner I use, it smells heavenly!
Oil
Oil is a super important part of maintaining (and achieving) strong, healthy hair. Finding the right oil for your hair can often be a trail and error process, but once you find out what works for you, your hair will flourish. Personally, I am a huge fan on Jamaican Black Castor Oil. It has really helped to thicken my hair and keep it moisturized. I have naturally dry hair, so moisturizing it isn’t always a walk in the park but using this oil along with my other products has worked wonders for me!
**Honorable Mention**
Water! I know as black women, we were taught to keep our hair away from water unless we were washing it (lol), but water is the OG moisturizer!
Making the transition from relaxed to natural has definitely been one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever done, but using the right products, can make the journey a little easier!
**Remember that what works for my hair might not work for yours! This process is all about trying things out and deciding what you like for your hair. Be patient and have fun with the process!**
