Valentine’s Day approaches! But the real question is, are you ready for Galentine’s Day?
This ubiquitous holiday created by Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope is a beautiful celebration of the friendship between you and your best girl friends! Though created on the show, much like the concept #treatyoself, I find this celebration of female friendship quite beautiful. Because most of the time, women are pitted against one another and depicted to be in competition with one another. This celebration of the unity and support between women on this day before Valentine’s Day is inspiring, here are some ways to celebrate it with your favorite ladies:
1. Typical Girls’ Night
Grab some nail polish, face masks, and all of the junk food, and just spend quality time with your friends just being girls without the pressure of societal standards of femininity being forced on you!
2. Volunteer
Gather up and give back to your community! Take the day to volunteer at the local humane society or animal shelter, or donate to any charities for women’s rights. Doing something good will make you feel good in return.
3. Bake Off
Look up some of your favorite recipes and have a night of baking sweet treats! Then at the end swap and enjoy new recipes and fun.
4. Parks and Rec Marathon
In the honor of the birth of Galentine’s Day, why not spend time watching Leslie KNope’s friendships with Ann, April, and Donna inspire you to be the Leslie Knope to your friends.
5. Paint Night
Creativity is the best remedy for all boredom. Buy some canvases and acrlyic paint and create a permanent reminder of Galentine’s Day.
6. Potluck
Host a potluck of everyone’s favorite dinners and desserts and maybe find some new favorites in return!
7. Have A Night on the Town
Get dressed up and slay the entire town with how beautiful and confident you and your crew are!!
8. Host a Skype Date
If your faves aren’t close to you, host an epic Skype date and catch each other up on the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Valentine’s Day can easily become a day spent wondering if you’re worthy enough of love and romantic validation. It can become to easy to forget that the foundation of most love stems from a platonic love! Spend Galentine’s Day surrounded by love and that mindset, and it’ll be sweeter than any chocolates and roses you could receive.
