Fun Halloween Traditions to Carry On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Colorful leaves, warm colors and a cooler breeze are not only signs of fall approaching but also the first holiday of the fall season is near, Halloween.

Halloween is the only holiday full of sweet treats, costumes and screams. It is also the holiday where the world does not get enough of seeing orange and black.

Many grew up doing things with their families to celebrate this spooky holiday. A lot of the Halloween festivities are traditions passed down from centuries ago. Many of the traditions have origins and meaning, but today we have fun with them the best way we know how.

Check out these fun Halloween traditions to enjoy with friends and family to help get into the spirit and celebrate this season:

Make Halloween Treats

Who said Halloween could not inspire some creativity in the kitchen? Grab your apron, flour and get to making your favorite sweets, Halloween style. Homemade cookies, brownies and Rice Krispy treats can all be dipped in a little of the Halloween spirit. Baking is not your cup of tea? To make it even easier to get into the spirit, pre-packaged Halloween themed sugar cookie dough is readily available in your local grocery stores.

Jack-o-Lanterns

Carve a pumpkin just because or create your own jack-o-lantern, either way is fun. Grab a pumpkin and create whatever friendly or spooky face you want. It may not be the easiest task, but when done with the people you love the most you are sure to get a good laugh out of it.

Fall Festivals

Fall festivals are fun for everyone regardless of age. Games, costumes, food, candy apples and nice weather to enjoy it all in is what makes fall festivals a must.

Haunted Houses

Everyone needs a good scare every now and then. Haunted houses will get the job done. Grabbing a group of friends to be scared with and yell until your voice is no more is Halloween goals. There is nothing like running in terror, screaming for your life and using your best friend as a personal shield because that is what friends are for, of course.

Trick-or-Treating

We enjoyed it in our childhoods, but who said the fun had to end the minute we reached adulthood? Free candy has no age limit. Even if trick-or-treating is not your thing, you could even take out younger siblings. If it is your thing, still take an overly excited child with you, that way you can dress up and grab a few treats without feeling ashamed.

Horror or Themed Movies

This is the perfect time to watch the classics you grew up on like Halloween Town, Twitches or Hocus Pocus. If you are up for a scare and want to turn it up a notch why not indulge in your favorite horrors such as the classic Halloween featuring maniac serial killer Michael Myers or Nightmare on Elm Street, the movie that left us frightened to fall asleep. Have some friends come over, grab the popcorn and enjoy a night filled with Halloween cinemas.
