Campus Celebrity Josh Mackrill ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Name: Joshua Dale Mackrill

Hometown: Hinesville, Georgia

Year: 4th Year Senior

Major: International Studies and Anthropology w/ Minor in Spanish

HC: What kind of organizations are you involved in?

JM: Sigma Lambda Beta, International Fraternity Inc., National Residence Hall Honorary, Gay-Straight Alliance, RHA Mentor, Community Leaders United, Anthropology Society. Yeah. that’s about it for student orgs.

HC: Do you hold any positions in any of those organizations?

JM: I’m the current president of Sigma Lambda Betas and I was the secretary of the Anthropology Society as a sophomore.

HC: What do you do as president of Sigma Lambda Beta?

JM: I keep the fraternity running and make hard decisions to keep the chapter running. I have to be the liaison between our national office and the university’s Greek life office.

HC: Do you do anything else around campus?

JM: I work as a community leader.

HC: How do you like being a CL?

JM: I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to grow as a CL and to mentor incoming students. It helps you gain many different techniques, however going into this last year there have been many things that have happened that have made me miss my first year as a CL. And the change in the GSU curriculum has made me what to work in a different style of curriculum when I go into education.

HC: Do you have any advice for people who want to become a CL?

JM: That . . . be prepare that some days you’re going into situations you don’t want to be in but at the end of the day this job helps you grow in character. Always remember to take a breath and not let the job stress you out.

HC: What do you do for fun?

JM: I like to watch TV. I like to walk around campus, hang out with my friends, get a bite to eat, and watch a lot of Buzz Feed videos.

HC: What do you like most about Georgia Southern?

JM: I would say Sweetheart Circle and the RAC. Sweetheart Circle because it invites a park atmosphere for those students who don’t really have that experience and the RAC because it’s one of the top recreation in nation and it’s for those who are really into fitness.

HC: What’s your goal for after graduation?

JM: To either get into a good graduate school and pursue a career in higher education in a nice diverse metropolitan area. And if I don’t get into the program I want to get a job in foreign studies like study abroad so that I can use my degree in international studies.
