FW ‘18

Fashion Week came this year with new designers and new styles that were trending this Spring. Dates of the show vary on locations. New York’s Fashion Week was February 5-16. London’s Fashion Week was February 16-20. And Milan’s Fashion Week was February 21-27. The last week of Fashion week ends with Paris on February 27- March 6. There were designers that ranged from Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Oscar De La Renta, and Rihanna. Sadly I was not able to make it this year but,  I noticed some very abnormal moments and runway tactics that the designers created for the show. This years show was nothing near normal. If you missed any of the iconic moments this Fashion Week let’s look at a recap.

  1. Anna Winthrop and Cardi B

It was quite unexpected to witness one of our favorite female Hip Hop Artist and Editor In Chief of Vogue magazine sitting next to each other for Fashion Week. Both Anna Winthrop and Cardi B were sitting front row at Alexander Wang Fashion Show. This was the very first time that both these lovely women met. Many of us wonder what conversation these two had as they sat together. I’m sure there was not one silent moment between the two with Mrs. Cardi B by her side.

2. Popcorn On The Runway

Calvin Klein was not too fond of the typical runway for his models this year. Why settle for a traditional runway when you can have a popcorn runway? Raf simons used 50,000 gallons of popcorn to cover the runway. Guest and models had pieces of popcorn kernels flying around the show everywhere they walked. As for those who dressed up in thousand dollar suits, dresses, and shoes, the “food prop” for the show was probably not amused.

3. Gucci And Its Twisted Mythical Fantasy

This year Alessandro Michele imagination took us all by surprise.  The creative director of Gucci wanted something new and creepy this year for the show. The models for Gucci walked down the runway with severed heads, horns on their head, and mystical creatures such as baby dragons. The show was debuting Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2018-2019 upcoming collection.

4. Drones On The Runway

Who needs models when you can use drones to model your apparel and accessories?  This year at Fashion week in Milan, Dolce and Gabbana used drones to showcase their new 2018 handbags. But, to make this possible as guest entered the show they were instructed to turn off their wifi and any personal hotspots they had on their phone. Once everyone complied with the given instructions, the drones made its way down the runway with all the new handbags. Talk about a creative way to open a show!!

5. Welcome To Wakanda

In honor of the new movie Black Panther that came out , designers decided to bring the movie to life. Wakanda was brought to the runway with inspirations from the movie. The fashion show wasn’t just a regular fashion show it was a charity with designers who helped in the making of clothes for the movie. The designers incorporated looks using African fabrics and motifs. The clothing will be auctioned off and all profits made will go to Save The Children.
