5 Places on my International Travel Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

I don’t know about y’all, but one of the main things that keeps me calm and on my grind during this crazy college experience is fueling my imagination. Whether it’s imagining the kind of house and car I want or my dream career, I have to make it feel real to me so I’m more inclined to work for it! With Spring break plans being finalized and Summer slowly creeping behind, lately I’ve been imagining some of my dream vacations. Come with me on a journey in your mind to some of the few locations on my international travel bucket list.

Amalfi Coast

Bookmundi

Let’s start with this view! Imagine taking a boat tour along this coastline, where shops, luxurious hotels, and fine dining restaurants  cascade down the mountains. There is obviously no shortage in things to do. Visit the beautiful and beloved beaches in the town of Positano or take a hike to get a bird’s eye view of the beautiful mountains. If you’re a shopaholic like me, then the shops along the coast should get you very excited as Positano is famous for its made-to-measure fashions as well as it’s very unique antiques. If the hikes and regular boat rides along the coast aren’t enough for you, take a boat tour of the beautiful emerald lit Grotta dello Smeraldo Cave. This will be sure to top your list of excursions while visiting the coast.

  Hong Kong

The Telegraph

Hong Kong has always been a must-see destination for me because of its unique infrastructure, culture, and technological advancements. With the Star Ferry being one of its main attractions, I’d be sure to start there. The ferry takes passengers from the Kowloon Peninsula to Hong Kong Island while placing them right in the middle of the famous Hong Kong skyline. After taking in the outstanding views I would head over to one of Hong Kong’s famous street markets to stuff myself with some of their unique Asian cuisine, marvel at the lights and of course check out the galore of merchandise. One thing’s for sure in this bustling city,  you’ll always have the perfect scenery for a photo op.

   Santorini, Greece

USA Today

This volcanic country is home to where the City of Atlantis was rumored to have once stood. It’s history with volcanoes provides for some of the most interesting scenic activities such as the black sand beach of Kamari. The volcanic soil also has a hand in the amazing wine Santorini is known for (amongst other things). I hear the wine tours are an absolute must for food enthusiast!  There is also the beautiful hiking trail from Fira to Oia that provides some of the best views and cultural experience as it passes through four different towns. Having breakfast out in the terrace of my villa with this view is definitely a dream of mine.

 Thailand

SAGA

Thailand is yet another country whose infrastructure and history is nothing short of amazing. Visiting the beautiful temples and historic museums is a must when it comes to hearing more about the culture and seeing the fascinating architecture. To further experience Thailand’s rich culture, take a boat ride down one their famous floating markets! There hundreds of boats floating along the canal selling all kinds of food and garments. You also can’t visit Thailand without snorkeling off it’s beautiful coast as it is home to beautiful coral reefs and marine life.  This country is also well-known for its amazing spas. After a long day of traveling through museums and temples relax with an amazing full body massage.

Amsterdam

Netherlands-tourism

First of all, there’s a Museum of Bags and Purses! This on its own is enough for me to hop on a plane and show Amsterdam some love. This country has some of the most interesting museums such as the Van Gogh, Anne Frank, and Rijksmuseum museums. If the artistry and history within these museums isn’t enough to get you excited about the amazing netherlands, take a trip to the amazing international food hall, Foodhallen where there it food stands and trucks galore!
