Usually I blog about fashion, beauty and hair, so I figured I could work this topic in somehow. I’ve figured “health” can be a part of beauty, so I’m using that as a way to write this. There are obviously stressful times during different parts of the semester, but we all know the worst time for many students, especially me and my fellow freshmen are finals. They come out of nowhere, and I’m already feeling the stress of them. Here are some tips for staying calm:

 Eat healthy, Be healthy
There is the definite temptation to eat whatever you want, whenever you want during study break and finals but avoid this pattern! Avoid sugar, go for protein and try to manage some exercise into your schedule. Some of my favorite snacks are pita chips and hummus, raspberries, granola and yogurt, and just water or chai tea to drink. (But it’s never bad to indulge every few days: Starbucks and mac n’cheese are calling my name)

Do what YOU want.
If a friend wants to hang out when you don’t have the time, or drama seems to be exploding around you at the worst possible time just exit the situation. Sometimes people around you may get crazy from stress, so avoid feeling the same way by not being afraid to have alone time. My favorite thing to do when I just need alone time is walking down to Barnes and Noble, sitting in the café and getting work done there. Avoid distractions, because you have permission to be selfish for a day.

 Pamper yourself.
Take one day during finals when you don’t have a test in the immediate future to relax. Do your nails, try an in-dorm spa day with your friends, watch a movie, anything really to avoid the stress that you’re under! Try out Lush down on M. Street for some nice shower gels and other deliciously scented products that take almost any stress away.

Take breaks every once in a while.
Even though it may seem unproductive it’s normal to take breaks! Don’t spend hours after hours working because that will just wear you out. Instead go on your favorite website, talk to a friend for a bit, whatever you want to do as long as you don’t make yourself more tired than you should be.

Work hard.
Yes, you should take breaks and stay calm, but it is important to work and study. If you want good grades you have to put the work in. Balance out studying to different days, but make sure you’re doing everything you possibly could do to ensure you’ll do well.

Believe in yourself.
Cheesy as it sounds if you know that you’ve studied as much as you possibly can and feel prepared, then be confident in yourself. You know that you’ve done all you can and that’s all you can hope for. Even though this is unrealistic for a college student, try to get a good night’s sleep before your test and eat breakfast in the morning. I rarely follow these rules, but I’m going to try in these upcoming weeks!
