Sunglasses: Kardashian Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Before I looked at the Kardashians’ Instagrams, I thought that any pair of sunglasses was sufficient for guarding my pale blue eyes from the sun.  I was wrong.  Realizing that I sound a bit bratty let me combat this by stating I do not condone excess spending or materialistic obsessions of any kind.  However, a gift for oneself once in a while is quite appropriate.  After eyeing an embarrassing number of Kylie Jenner’s Instagram pictures featuring some beautiful works of sunglass-art, I knew that the mission was mine: I set off on a quest to obtain the perfect pair of sunglasses, and yes, they do exist.

In the process of my search, I discovered a few things.  Firstly, attractive sunglasses are difficult to find, and secondly, all shapes are not created equal, ladies.  Personally, with my oval face shape, I cannot wear a totally round pair of sunglasses, but add a slight cat-eye to it and I’m set!  Here is a link to guide to the best glasses for each face shape, but don’t hesitate to break these rules.  See what works best for you and your preferences!

Based on my Kardashian research, Kris Jenner sports a strikingly high number of badass sunglasses, ranging from metal-rimmed mirror ones, to chunky tortoise shell cat-eyed lenses, to a round shaped lens with a double bridge.  I also learned that I prefer more masculine-looking glasses, a look that many of the Kardashian women pull-off.  The key here is not to limit your search to “women’s” sunglasses, but to include unisex and men’s glasses in your hunt.  Unfortunately, I found very few sunglasses with double bridges (my favorite design).  Eventually, I unearthed a pair of round-ish Robert Marc sunglasses after a long month of searching, and I must say, I am content.  Although the Kardashians prompted me into a shopping frenzy, I like my new sunglasses and find comfort in knowing that my eyes are now protected with Polaroid lenses…just like a medieval fortress, or the Kardashian compound.
