Stepping Into New Spring Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

I never thought I would finally be able to say this, but spring has arrived. If you couldn’t tell by the sporadic days of beautiful sunny weather interspersed with snow days, we are in the midst of March. For me, at least, this is the most perfect time of the year. Embrace the shift in weather by putting away those dreadful winter coats and kindly storing them in a place far, far away. Spring clean for as long as you desire because sunnier days are certainly ahead. Here are my four favorite upcoming trends to look forward to this spring:

1.     Psychedelic Floral: This new trend takes the much-beloved floral pattern to an entirely new level. I literally can’t take my eyes off this stuff. Although there is often reason for caution when it comes to bold patterns, I simply love the uniqueness of this trendy print. This Tibi dress stole my heart when I was perusing the shops on M Street, but feel free to try the pattern in a subtler and (less expensive) way with a casual tee.

2.     Mint: One of the most perfect ways to transition from bundled-up winter clothes to spring’s lovely pastels is by throwing them together in a sweater. It also doesn’t hurt to show off that hard-earned spring break tan. Also try transforming your look into something a little more edgy by trying out this studded mint clutch.

3.     Warm-Weather Leather: Despite the constant debate, I am a firm believer that everyone is capable of pulling off this trend in some way, shape or form. Now that the leather trend is staying put year-round, there are several different ways to make the look your own. You can go with the iconic leather jacket, which always impresses when paired with a sleek shift dress or a silk top and jeans for a night outfit. I have been eyeing this eggshell faux leather tee, which is both affordable and can be easily thrown on for a chic daytime look.

4.     Crop Tops: As much as I hate to admit it, especially after several years of constantly criticizing my preteen sister, I am slowly becoming convinced that these items of clothing possess a certain charm when approached in the right way. Recently, I paired my friend’s heather grey crop top with a long, pleated pastel skirt, and, for once, the shorter look felt just right. Go for a solid plain look and pair it with a fun necklace, or, if you’re feeling decadent, you can’t go wrong with adding some elegant beading into your repertoire.
