The Most Relevant: A Playlist

Looking for new songs to listen to? Follow our playlist for our top recommendations for the month and check out the highlights below!

1. Homemade Dynamite (featuring Khalid, Post Malone, and SZA) –  Lorde

Lorde has been living her best life recently, her album “Melodrama” came out to critical praise and her new single “Homemade Dynamite” features some of the hottest artists of the summer.

2. XXXTENTACION – Jocelyn Flores

Okay, I love this song not only because my name is Jocelyn, but also because XXXTENTACION has been on a roll as of late.

3. Young Dumb & Broke – Khalid

Khalid is featured on this list more than once because this native Californian has really broken through the music industry in the past 5 months. Going from a virtually unknown artist to a sold out tour, Khalid has collabed with some of the best in the business, but this song off of his first album remains one of my die hard college anthems.

4. Too Good At Goodbyes – Sam Smith

Sam Smith hasn’t put out music in so long that I honestly thought he was pulling an Adele and leaving us without his beautiful ballads forever. His first single off of an upcoming album was no disappointment.

5. Across The Room (featuring Leon Bridges)- ODESZA

ODESZA, the up and coming EDM duo out of Seattle, is the more lowkey feels version of The Chainsmokers, and their new single “Across The Room” with Leon Bridges shows how EDM and folk can come together perfectly.

6. Boredom – Tyler, The Creator, Rex Orange County, and Anna of the North I listened to this song for the first time while watching HBO’s “Insecure” (which I highly recommend for its #woke content, amazing acting, and BOOMIN soundtrack) and let me just tell you that it made me feel I would on a lazy sunday on Healey Lawn. 10/10 recommend checking out “Insecure”, Issa Rae is just too brilliant for us mere mortals, and the soundtrack playlist linked here.

7. Big Fish – Vince Staples

Another Insecure track, Vince Staples keeps reaching new and more impressive levels of lyrical talent each time he puts out new music. “Big Fish” represents his transition in an avante-garde phase and really channels a different image.

8. Die For You – The Weeknd

The Weeknd’s newest album “Starboy” was chalk full of pop hits, but perhaps his best work on the album is one of his low tempo songs, “Die for You”. A close second is “True Colors”, another song that deals heavily with themes of love and loss.

9. Teenage Fever – Drake

Off of Drake’s album “More Life”, and reminiscent of Drake’s classic “Marvin’s Room”. Sampling Jennifer Lopez’s song “If You Had My Love,” Drake is either shading her or paying homage to the Latina queen who he was rumored to be seeing shortly before the song was put out.

10. Pink + White – Frank Ocean

Frank has always been a mastermind of tempos and lyrics, but his song “Pink + White”, takes it to a new level. As always, anything Frank touches is gold, and I’m still not over “Blonde.”

11. Rollin – Calvin Harris, Future, Khalid

Calvin Harris’ new album “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1” features everyone from Travis Scott to Katy Perry. One of the best and most popular songs, “Rollin”, features Calvin’s iconic smooth beat with Khalid’s vocals and Futures one liners. It was pretty much my song of the summer.

12. River – Leon Bridges

A track I first heard on HBO’s “Big Little Lies”, when am I not watching HBO? Reese Witherspoon literally soft cries while watching the ocean in Monterey, California to this song!! Leon’s soft twang and yet so powerful emotion are enough to make sure that you too cry watching the sun set into the ocean.

13. Neighbors – J. Cole

J. Cole has always been a lyrical genius, but recently his new album “4 Your Eyez Only” has received even more well deserved recognition for the intense storyline it provides. “Neighbors”, a single off of the album, proves to be one of his best songs yet. Wrought with political and emotional tension, J.Cole has found his most developed voice since America entered a new stage of anxiety.

14. LOYALTY ft. Rihanna – Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick was the artist of the summer and continues to deliver the most powerful tracks of all time. Kendrick has evolved in a lot of ways since “good kid, m A.A.d city” and found a way to balance mainstream tempos with powerful lyrics. Also, this song doesn’t just “feature” Rihanna, she basically owns the song just as much as Kendrick does.

15. Sweet Creature – Harry Styles

Who ever thought I would like a Harry Styles song? Well I guess the day has come, and honestly, his new folk/David Bowie-esque album was very much everything he promised and more after One Direction’s indefinite hiatus.

16. CRZY – Kehlani

Kehlani, another young RnB singer rising in the ranks delivers an amazing song full of emotion and relatability. You’ll fall CRZY in love with it and her.

17. Sit Next to Me – Foster the People

Foster the People are back and better than ever! Foster the People should be commended for mastering the art of adapting their style without changing the sound that makes them unique. Foster the People delivers us “Sit Next to Me” which is beyond amazing for those chill nights with your friends.
