It’s Christmas and you’re in charge of dessert, with nothing to make, but you know that you need to impress. Cake balls have recently gotten extremely popular, popping up in Starbucks and cookbooks, due to their factor of cuteness/delectability. This recipe is foolproof, easy, and delicious and looks as if you spent hours, instead of minutes making them!
You will need:
Red velvet cake mix
One can of cream cheese frosting
White candy melts (Michael’s)
Red sugar sprinkles
Chocolate candy melts: optional
Pretzels: optional
Brown and red M&Ms: optional
Extra cream cheese frosting: optional
1. Begin by making the red velvet cake, following the instructions on the cake box, and allowing to cool.
2. Break up the cake and mix with cream cheese frosting in a bowl.
3. Roll the mixture into small balls, placing on top of a cookie sheet. When finished leave in the fridge to cool and become firm.
4. Wait a half hour for the cake balls to cool. After they’re done, heat up the white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl until melted and dip the cake balls into the melted chocolate. Sprinkle red sugar sprinkles on top and you’re done!
5. Optional Cake Balls: Melt the chocolate candy melts and dip the balls inside. Break off the loop of the pretzel, the way it is done in the picture, and put them in the cake balls as antlers. Stick a red M&M on as a nose, and apply brown M&Ms as eyes. Put the extra frosting in a Ziploc bag and make a tiny cut in the tip so a tiny dab of frosting can be put on the brown M&MS to complete the eyes. Put the cake balls in the fridge to set, and you’re good to go!
