You hear their singles on the radio, but take another listen, and look up their albums. These artists have boomed in 2013, and for good reason. You will find raw emotion and creative beats without derogatory rap lyrics and degrading views of women. Here are seven bands that will change your view of the world:

FinleyKnight: I could rave about this talented brother duo for hours. The Chicago natives have had shows all over the map and just recently collaborated with Joey Waronker of Atoms for Peace, REM, and Beck to produce their self-titled debut album FinleyKnight. This album is magic, and not to mention, the ladies love them.

Check out: “I’m Driving Cars” and “Far From View”

Cage the Elephant: Years ago we all blasted “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked”, but their recent album, Melophobia, even puts that to shame. You’ll crave more after the first listen.

Check out: “Come a Little Closer”

Lorde: This 17-year-old singer-songwriter from New Zealand uses minimal background music, focusing on lyrics and raw vocals. You’ve heard “Royals”, but listen to the full album, Pure Heroine, and you will be instantly hooked. It’s unbelievable.

Imagine Dragons: I agree, the band name is ridiculous- but don’t judge a band by their name. This album has blown up around the world this year, and it will capture your heart (and ears) too.

Check out: “Demons”

The Neighbourhood: Or “The NBHD” released their full album, I Love You, last April. This alternative band has such catchy beats with a dark twist, forcing you to sing along.

Check out: “Sweater Weather”

Atlas Genius: These Australian brothers collaborated to spoil us with their sounds. Before they even wrote their album, they dedicated a few years to building their studio from the ground up. Amazing.

Bastille: This British band released their debut album, Bad Blood, this year. Their alternative and indie rock vibe brings out the emotion and energy we long for in music.
