Five Books and Ten Songs for Rainy Days on the Hilltop

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Books:

The Great Gatsby

The glamour, romance, and drama are perfectly suited for a cup of something hot and rainy days. Gatsby will sweep you away from the dreary weather into a world of lavish parties and champagne.

The Sun Also Rises

It’s vaguely depressing, but also just a really good book. My rainy day criteria is something that will distract me from Cabin Fever and boredom, and this is interesting enough to do just that.

The DaVinci Code

I literally could not put this down. Anyone who loves mystery or secret societies or conspiracy theories will LOVE this book. The “shadowyness” makes it the quintessential rainy day read.

Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness

I read this in a day and only took breaks to eat and sleep. It’s dark and extremely fascinating. You won’t want to take a break, so it’s great for getting cozy and reading all day wrapped in a blanket.

And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks

It’s very untraditional and a very quick read, making it great for cozying up and spending the day with a book that is simple to read to relax and distract yourself from the looming pile of work and studying.

Songs:

  1. “Stubborn Love”- The Lumineers

  2. “Ever Since New York/Meet Me in the Hallway”- Harry Styles

  3. “The Night We Met”- Lord Huron

  4. “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off”- Ella Eyre

Madelyn is a freshman Human Science major in the NHS from NJ. When she's not rewatching The Office or Grey's Anatomy (again) she will probably be on a vanilla chai latte run.
