Best Wintertime Activities

Being stuck in the middle of finals is always a bummer. Why not take a break and think about all of the fun wintertime activities you have planned for break? There are so many great ways to spend winter break. What will you be doing?

Skiing/ Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding are great ways to spend your break. A lot of mountains have great student discounts for college kids. Whether it’s a family vacation or a quick weekend or day trip getaway with friends, spending some time on the slopes is always exciting.

Ice Skating

Love ice skating? Check out the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink. The rink is open mid-November to mid-March. Enjoy all the sculptures while skating in the open air. For more info on times and pricing check out there website http://www.nga.gov/ginfo/skating.shtm

Sledding/ Tubing

Not into skiing or snowboarding, too clumsy to handle skates? Sledding and tubing are great alternative outdoor activities. Just make sure you wear the right shoes! Bundle up, grab your friends and find a sledding place, or just a hill near you and get ready for a great time.

Movies and Hot Cocoa

One of the best parts about break is that it is a time to relax so take advantage. Spend a day curled up on the couch watching your favorite movies. Invite friends over for a comfy movie marathon. Some hot cocoa and Christmas cookies will make it a perfect day.

Throw a Holiday Party

Get all of your friends from home together, and school friends who live nearby, and throw a holiday party. It’s a great chance for everyone to dress up, catch up, and have a great time. A little decorating, some festive lights and drinks, a candy cane or two and you’ve got a great night that everyone is sure to remember.

See a Holiday Show

Whether it’s the Rockettes at Radio City or the Nutcracker Ballet at the Kennedy Center make some time this year for a holiday show. Heading to the theatre is a great way to spend a day and get out of the cold!

So while you’re sitting in Lau or the MSB struggling with studying, don’t forget to take some time to think about all the exciting plans you’re going to have for the break!
