8 Reasons You Should be Reading Meg Cabot

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

1. She is hilarious!

Meg Cabot’s dialogue and characterizations are spot on! For example, Suze Simon commonly refers to her step-brothers as Sleepy (Jake), Dopey (Brad), and Doc (David). I love this! She exhibits her sense of humor and the reader learns how she views other characters. David is really intelligent; thus, Suze thinks of him as Doc.

2. Fantastic Series

The Mediator, 1-800-Where-R-You, and The Princess Diaries are just a few series she has penned over the years. Cabot recently published new novels in the The Mediator and The Princess Diaries franchises.

3. What Genre Do You Like?

Cabot has written Middle Grade, Young Adult, New Adult, Romance, Historical Fiction, Adult Fiction, and Fantasy. No matter the reader’s personal preferences, they can find a book of hers in their preferred genre.

4. Pop Culture References

When reading the newest Princess Diaries novel, Royal Wedding, Cabot wrote a reference to Sharknado. Snarknado! Cabot noted Ian Ziering’s chainsaw and his ability to cut through sharks at a startlingly quick rate, just as words can cut through an individual.

5. Fun Characters

In the Queen of Babble, I squirmed and cringed at some of the silliness that came out of Lizzie’s mouth. It is impossible not to love Cabot’s other creations Mia, Suze, and Jess. All of Cabot’s protagonists are likeable and have the ability to entertain the reader throughout the entire novel.

6. Witty Dialogue

In Being Nikki Cabot wrote, “No one has ever died of embarrassment-never, not once in the whole history of time.” Other fun one-liners include, “What is the appropriate reply to make to a man who says he loves you? Thank you. You are very kind,” “If your head is constantly stuck in a book, you’re going to miss a lot,” and “Unrequited love is all right in books and things, but in real life, it completely sucks.”

7. There are always more books to read!

Meg Cabot has produced more than fifty novels! As soon as a reader finishes one of her master pieces, they can pick up another.

8. Meg Cabot is Awesome!

Meg Cabot comes across as personable and likeable. Her tweets are so sweet and she engages with her readers more so than any other author I’ve come across. Rather than simply acknowledge her books or subjects she’s interested in, Cabot writes with her fans in mind. She retweets them and replies to their posts. She also follows quite a few of them in return. How adorable is she?

Also, in honor of The Princess Diaries series, she is pictured wearing a tiara in several images. How cute! Don’t you just want to smile?
