6 Ways to Make the Most of the Holiday Season, Despite Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

We’re in the stressful finals season that falls within the awkward period of time between Thanksgiving and the December holidays. Sadly, this finals season has replaced the holiday season. Georgetown becomes wonderfully festive during December with Winter Hoyaland and the Christmas tree lighting, but there is still an omnipresent attitude of stress. Everyone is trying to focus and study while also salvage holiday spirit. As important as finals and grades are, I also believe that happiness and enjoyment during the holiday spirit should be another priority.

1.     Organize a Secret Santa with people on your floor or your closest friends.

The gifts don’t have to be elaborate but throughout finals week, little pick-me-ups from a Secret Santa will do wonders for your attitudes. Plus, who doesn’t love giving (and receiving) gifts?

2.     Take some time to decorate your room.

Paper snowflakes are so easy and really spice up any dorm room. Also, lights may be a pain to hang up, but they look amazing once they are.

3.      Go find the best decorated houses nearby.

It’ll be like a scavenger hunt.

4. Bake some cookies.

Gingersnaps, sugar, snickerdoodles, peppermint chocolate chip! There are so many different kinds, and you really just can’t go wrong. Even though common room ovens can be a little finicky, your floor will smell like wonderful, delicious baked goods and your whole floor will thank you for it.

5.     Integrate studying with holiday activities like listening to Christmas music while quizzing a friend.

Learning and doing well in classes is of course an integral part of being at college, but it doesn’t have to be dreary during finals week! Spice it up and make it (at least somewhat) enjoyable.

6. Wear Holiday sweaters to all of your exams.

Everyone will appreciate it. Especially if they’re “ugly.”
