10 Meals for Under $10

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Already sick of Leo’s but don’t want to break the bank eating out all of the time?  Luckily, there are so many great food places around Georgetown that you can treat yourself to a good meal without going out of budget.  We know Leo’s can get old fast and sometimes you just need to change it up a little, so we’ve got you covered with our 10 favorite meals for under $10.

1. sweetgreen

A favorite of many girls on campus is sweetgreen, where you can get a great salad or wrap, or indulge your sweet tooth with some sweetflow frozen yogurt.  They have a menu of salads to order, or you can get creative and make your own.  The make your own salad option is perfect if you know what you want, but also look out for the Seasonal Salad or Kale Caesar, which are always hits.  You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose at sweetgreen, and they take GoCards as an added bonus, so next time you’re craving a healthy meal but the salad bar at Leo’s just isn’t cutting it, head over to M street and satisfy that craving.

2. Wisey’s

Wisey’s is a Georgetown staple that everyone has to try at least once while they’re here.  They’re famous for their signature sandwiches, but their cookies are just as good so make sure to add an Oreo cookie to your order at check out.  Although the Chicken Madness is the classic Wisey’s sandwich, I would recommend the Hot Chick if you want to spice it up (figuratively and literally).  And don’t underestimate their breakfast sandwiches on a Sunday morning—they’re a perfect pick-me-up after a late night, and once again you can pay for all of this with your GoCard!

3. café tu-o-tu

If you’re still craving a sandwich but want something a little healthier, try café tu-o-tu on the end of M street right across from the Key Bridge.  Café tu-o-tu serves Mediterranean cuisine, but their menu is so large and diverse that there’s something for everyone.  They serve sandwiches, paninis, wraps, soups, salads, and some appetizers and desserts, so you’ll definitely find more than one thing you’ll want to try, especially after seeing all of the mouthwatering pictures.  This GoCard accepting café has another bonus: they deliver, so even if you have a date with Netflix all day you can still enjoy your favorite Tropical Sandwich delivered right to your dorm.

4. DC Wisey’s

DC Wisey’s, better known as Healthy Wiseys, is another place to grab a quick meal.  They offer salads, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and subs, along with their popular smoothies.  This place is great for a late night study snack, as they deliver and take GoCard as well, so if you find yourself holed up at Lau with no time for a break, just go online to order and it will be outside the door in 20 minutes.

5. Good Stuff Eatery

Good Stuff Eatery is new to M Street this year but it has already become a campus favorite.  Famous for their gourmet burgers, they offer a whole menu to choose from, including some salads if you’re looking to be a bit more health conscious.  Their milkshakes are just as famous, with flavors like Milky Way Malt and Red Velvet they add the perfect something sweet to go with your satisfying burger.  And if your birthday’s coming up you’re in luck because you’ll get a free milkshake, so make sure you indulge yourself and head over to our new favorite spot!

6. Dean and Deluca

Dean and Deluca is a convenient market to meet all of your needs.  They offer amazing sandwiches, my favorite is the Turkey Avocado, sushi, soup, and a variety of pastas and already-made meat and chicken dishes.  It’s nice to sit outside and eat while taking in Georgetown on a nice day, so if you’re looking for a great tasting, nice meal go to Dean and Deluca and you won’t be disappointed.

7. Chipotle

Luckily, our campus is just steps away from Chipotle, a fan favorite everywhere.  This is a quick and easy place to go to satisfy your Mexican food craving and they take GoCards too, making it even more convenient!  So if the burrito bowls at Leo’s just can’t compare, walk a few blocks and splurge at Chipotle.

8. Qdoba

Rivaling Chipotle is another Mexican restaurant, Qdoba.  If you’re looking for a burrito bowl I’d go to Chipotle, but if you’re feeling a salad then go for Qdoba.  There’s an ongoing debate on which is better, but on Tuesday nights the clear winner is Qdoba.  They offer 50% off to students on Tuesdays, so if you plan to eat out one night make it that one and head over to Qdoba on M.

9. Marvelous Market

Located on P Street right by CVS is Marvelous Market, which is another market similar to Dean and Deluca that has a variety of goods.  They can make you delicious sandwiches, or you can pick up some soup, sushi, or a salad to go.  It’s hidden gem as it’s a little further away from campus than the others, but it’s definitely worth it so next time you’re looking to change it up make sure you head over there.

10. Cosi and Subway

These two places are conveniently located in Leavey Center, so you can easily pick up a quick meal in between classes if you want to skip Grab and Go for the day.  They both offer sandwiches and salads, and Cosi offers soup and flatbread pizzas as well—perfect for a fast meal on the go.  GoCards are accepted at both locations and HoyaCourt is currently being revamped right now so look out for new restaurants soon!

No matter how creative you get at Leo’s eating there for every meal everyday can get repetitive, so don’t be afraid to indulge and go out every once in a while, there’s some really great places that are just steps away and in your college budget!
