Everything You Need To Know About Disney+

A whole new world indeed!

In the fall of 2017, Disney first announced their plans to launch a brand new streaming service to rival the likes of Netflix and Hulu. This announcement not only prompted the unveiling of its official name -- Disney+ -- but also marked an unprecedented venture for the entertainment giant. The streaming service offers its members access to the extensive Disney library as well as exclusive content from Disney-owned properties.

Coming off the heels of the highly publicized D23 Expo, fans are more a buzz than ever about the influx of Disney-related content to be streamed this November. In addition to classic Disney favorites like “The Little Mermaid” and “101 Dalmations”, Disney+ members will have access to some of their favorite Marvel, “Star Wars”, and Pixar flicks. And to further add to the excitement, there will also be several new original movies and television shows finding a home at Disney+ very soon. As we are mere months away from its highly anticipated debut, here is everything you need to know about Disney+.

Say Hello to Disney’s Entire Filmography!

Upon the release of Disney+, members can once again revisit the vast selection of Disney’s filmography. On Nov. 12, nearly all of Disney’s animated classics will be available for streaming, along with several live-action films, Disney Channel Original Movies and Disney Channel shows. Additionally, Disney’s live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp” will bypass a theatrical release entirely and stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning Nov. 12. The family holiday flick, “Noelle”, which stars Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader, will also accompany “Lady and the Tramp” when it debuts Nov. 12.

There Are New, Exclusive TV Shows Coming Your Way

Disney+ is not just alluring for its extensive movie collection. Several new television shows will also soon be joining the streaming service. Younger audiences and Pixar fans alike can look forward to two upcoming series titled “Monsters at Work” and “Forky Asks a Question”. Both of these television shows will be extensions of the beloved Pixar franchises, “Monsters, Inc.” and “Toy Story”. Disney+ also plans to appeal to a nostalgic, young adult demographic with a “Lizzie McGuire” reboot and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” To the delight of many fans, Hilary Duff will be reprising her role as Lizzie McGuire in a revival of the Disney Channel hit series. But this time around, the show will focus on a now thirty-year-old Lizzie navigating her life in New York City. And once a wildcat, always a wildcat, I suppose. “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” seeks to incite viewers’ nostalgia by following a brand new cast of wildcats as they take part in their high school’s production of -- you guessed it -- “High School Musical.” Emulating similar stylist choices to “Glee,” the show promises new renditions of songs from the original HSM films as well as brand new, show-stopping numbers.

More of Your Favorite Marvel Heroes

Disney+ will be the new official home for Marvel as well. Members can expect “Captain Marvel,” “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2” and “Thor: The Dark World” to be available upon the service’s initial launch, with even more Marvel movies to follow within the next year. As the MCU’s Phase Four commences, fans can also delight in Marvel’s four upcoming limited series which will proceed the events of “Avengers: Endgame”. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” “Loki” and “Hawkeye” will all see the return of our favorite Marvel heroes and directly tie into the MCU’s overarching narrative leading up to Phase Five.

You Will Be Able to Stream the Entirety of the “Star Wars” Saga

Meanwhile, in a galaxy far far away, “Star Wars” fans will be able to enjoy all eight films on Disney+ at the touch of their fingertips. The first season of “The Mandalorian” is also set to premiere Nov. 12. This extension of the “Star Wars” universe will follow a lone hero during the time between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. Fans can also anticipate an upcoming “Rogue One” prequel series, Ewan McGregor’s return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and another season of “The Clone Wars” in the near future.

But Wait, There’s More!

Aside from the franchise titans that are Disney, Marvel, and “Star Wars”, there are other notable additions to the Disney+ library. For instance, over 250 National Geographic programs will be featured on the streaming service, including the highly anticipated debut of “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.” The Muppets will also be making their triumphant return in their own Disney+ series titled, “Muppets Now.” And finally, “The Simpsons” will also be finding a permanent new home at Disney+.

Disney+ has distinguished itself from its competitors in multiple ways. Most significantly, it has a much more concise selection of content with about 7,000 television episodes and 400-500 movies. The streaming service is also priced at an enticing $6.99/a month, which is less costly than its rivals. And where Netflix spurred the sensation of binge-watching, Disney+ will be known for reinstating the notion of weekly episodes. Disney+’s new television shows are designed to be enjoyed in increments, rather than an instantaneously, all-consuming binge. With its vast content collection and spectacular audio and visual quality, Disney+ promises viewers a truly magical streaming experience. And as the pandemonic levels of excitement surrounding its release only continue to grow, the official launch of Disney+ will certainly mark a momentous occasion in the entertainment world.
