6 Drinks And Cocktails For The Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

To be completely honest, my one true love is a fall cocktail.  It’s great to have a relaxing night. while enjoying a seasonal drink. The only thing is that I’m a college student, so I don’t have the budget for some of the intricate drinks out there. The recipe that requires crystallized exotic sugar, excctly 12 raspberries, and some rare, French named liquor is not the drink for me. So I looked around the web for a few cocktails that were low maintenance and easy on the budget. Here are a few (some with altercations) that I love!

1. Caramel Apple Martini

1 Ounce(s) Baileys Caramel Irish Cream

½ Ounce(s) Green Apple Flavored Vodka

This is a great drink that has a little bit of a kick to it because it has no mixer. The Bailey’s, however, has a rich smoothness that blends nicely with the vodka. I bought Smirnoff Green Apple Flavored Vodka, but any green apple vodka will taste great.

2. Hazelnut Cracker Shooter

1 part Vanilla Flavored Vodka

1 part Frangelico

½ part Godiva Liqueur

This was quite an experiment, but yielded great results. It’s a dessert shooter that tastes great with the hazelnut and chocolate flavor. If you don’t want too much liqueur in it, you could try substituting the Godiva liqueur for chocolate syrup.

3. Christmas Cheer

1 part Green Apple Flavored Vodka

2 parts cranberry juice

The combination of apple and cranberry is yummy! It’s less rich than the previous two drinks, which is nice for when you don’t want the fullness of a dessert drink. I used Smirnoff for this drink, as well, so investing in liquor you can use for more than one seasonal drink is budget-friendly!

4. Cinnamon Toast

1 ¼ ounce(s) Captain Morgan Original Spiced Run

6 ounce(s) hot apple cider

This one is another classic. A hot drink is just right for sitting around a bonfire, wrapped in your favorite sweater, talking about fun memories with friends. Just picture it… Anyway, there’s no fuss or extra things to add for this drink, either, which makes it a great contender on this list.

5. Angry Orchard Apple Ginger

Personally, I’m not a fan of beer. Instead, I enjoy cider, and this spin on my normal Angry Orchard is festive for fall! The ginger in it tastes fresh, and the apple is crisp. With a lower percent of alcohol per drink, it’s a good alternative at a tailgate if beer isn’t really your style.

6. Peppermint Schnapps Hot Chocolate

1 part Peppermint Schnapps

2 parts hot chocolate

This is by far my favorite drink! I don’t really have too much to say about this one, except that if you haven’t tried this combination yet, it’s a must for the holiday season!  I hope at least one of these is tempting your pallet as it gets chilly outside. Cuddle up next to someone, watch a movie, or even have a holiday get together (cider is great for a bigger number of people) with these delicious drinks! Whatever the case may be, please, as always, drink responsibly.
