For the first time since I was maybe five, I traveled outside of the country. I finally got my passport the week before spring break so I decided I had to go somewhere.Thankfully our school is very close to the Canadian border so it wasn’t too far and I could drive up. Sooo I went to Canada! I went with a friend of mine and it felt like a pretty big deal since this was my first big trip without my family. I had so much fun and got to eat some really great food. After I left Canada, I got to go home and see my family which was actually really nice and I got to eat a home cooked meal for the first time in a while. I also watched Turning Red and it was amazing. Overall, my spring break wasn’t super rejuvenation but it was extremely fun and I can’t wait for summer to come next!

This past weekend was St. Patrick’s Day in Buffalo—which means chaos. My family owns a restaurant in the city and the St. Patrick’s Day parade brings a ton of business in; it’s pretty much the biggest weekend of the entire year for us. So me, being the broke college student that I am, figured I would wait tables and make some money. It was pretty fun, but it was also the most stressful few hours I’ve endured in my recent memory. The building was basically packed with only standing room for most of the day, with people eating standing up, outside and on our pool table (it was covered, I promise). The coolest part of the night was when bagpipers stopped in and played music for us. The spirit of St. Patrick was definitely felt by all of the happy drunk people, and by me when I went home with my tips!

More or less, I did nothing. The rest of my family was either working or at school, since our spring breaks don’t line up, and I don’t really do well with unstructured time, so I was pretty bored. My sisters and I did go to see Hamilton at the Landmark Theater, and my longtime crush asked me out! So while it was mostly kind of boring, it ended with a bang.

I had a relatively busy but not uneventful spring break. I visited my sister and her friends at Keuka College. We really just hung out, watched a volleyball game (they lost) and ate some good food. I also applied (and got hired!!) for my summer job as a park/campground attendant! I also did a lot of shopping, mainly for a trip that I am taking in April (Europe!!). Other than that I just hung out with my dog, my family and my best friend! Overall, it was a pretty great spring break.

Over spring break, I watched four films, which I have ranked below:

  1. I went to a movie theater for the first time since January 2020 to see The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. It is one of the best Batman films I have ever seen. Many people have been praising Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz’s portrayals of Batman and Catwoman, which is well deserved. However, what most struck me was how terrifying Paul Dano’s Riddler was. I hope that there’s a sequel and that we’ll get to see Robin on the big screen in that one.
  2. I saw Spencer starring Kristen Stewart. She definitely earned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance. Oftentimes, I forgot I was watching her and not the real Diana. The filmmaking itself often left me feeling confined, disoriented, and upset, which I thought was brilliant as it made me feel as though I was walking in Diana’s shoes.
  3. I also watched Spider-Man: No Way Home. My favorite moment of the film was when Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man saved MJ from falling to her death. I thought that this was a great full circle moment given the events in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
  4. I watched Disney’s Turning Red and I have to commend the creators for how well they captured the awkwardness of middle school.

First, I went to Florida with some family and got to see my amazing grandma! <3 We saw the Broadway touring production of Frozen! It was very good! I also got to see my great aunt who is 94! It was the first time I saw her in years and I am so glad I got to see her. :) Then I was supposed to fly back to Rochester BUT… My flight was canceled! So, I ended up having to fly to another airport, but was already planning on going on a trip with friends to Niagara Falls. We had a blast from going to some fun bars to going to a really nice pool with a beautiful view of Canada on the balcony. Overall, it was a very busy and very fun break!
